your attitude of your "Oh, my opinion doesn't matter" and "they don't care what I think, and I can't change anything"

I am not a console fanboy I am a GAMER.  I play on consoles and PC, aint that what a true gamer is. But if you compare the PC gamming community to the 360, and PS3 community who is the smaller out of the three. So you can say I am a fanboy of console games but I will never stop playing any series of games or any game in general till after I have tried it. To see this happening in the gaming world is just wrong. You all are destroying the PC gaming world. You think that they wil now put this on every PC game, you think that this is the new way Gaming on a PC will be from now on. I am a gamer I will always be a gamer I will not dedicate myself to one thing and say that oh another one sucks. HAVE YOU EVER PLAYED ON A PS3 OR A 360, DID YOU EVER SEE HOW THEIR ONLINE PLAY WORKS. I am probably going to say not alot of you have. SO DON'T YOU COMMENT ON SOMETHING YOU HAVEN'T EVEN DID. Oh and for the above qoute. I NEVER SAID OR THOUGHT THAT FOR ONE SECOND. I am stating that all your attempts to say "oh lets cancel a pre-order that hurt them," will not work cause weither or not you buy it on the day it comes out or the day dedicated servers are back online YOU STILL ARE BUYING IT. You think this will hurt them you think they would care if 100,000 people cancel a pre-order to just buy it later. IN THE LONG RUN THEY STILL GET THE MONEY! This is what I have been saying this is what I been thinking. I haven't thought that this is a lost cause I have sign the petition as 10409. I never thought they will never create a dedicated server. I though have looked at this from both angles since I would want to go back to school for game design. But all of you are one sided all of you think that they do not know what they are think over there. They know what they are thinking about they know what they are doing. so go ahead cancel your pre-orders, it wont matter to them it wont make them get the dedicated servers out faster. It just make them not get the money right away. Oh and just for any comments on that little part count how many games that were good/ great games that didn't have many pre-orders, didn't sell much when it first came out, but they went to sell alot. They went to become games that alot of people play. All because of people read what others where saying about it. So all I say and all I think is that you guys are going overboard with the whole cancel the pre-orders but we will still get the game once dedicated servers back up. Wow that really doesn't sound smart to me.

I disagree, if they see that alot of the pre-orders have been canceled and decide to bring back the dedicated servers sooner than later thats kinda the whole point, at which time i believe that the whole effort of the petition and the community has been just and has rectified a great injustice to us. Once they bring back the dedicated servers and we all go out and get the game anyway they should realize that they made an error in judgment and hopefully wont do it in the future. By us getting the game at a later date yes it's true that they will still get our money but they will get it on our terms for a community based game...

thank you

i agree with Grimorly, i do also understand what you said Dark. but for some me as example. i built a PC. i dont own any consoles for the simple fact that the majority of high hit PS3 and Xbox games come out on PC. that of which all have different settings in-game. heck look at the name of Call of Duty for PS2 its a completely different name and almost all the same game setting.
my 2 cents on it is
yes if they start charging us for map packs, I WILL BUY THEM like everyone else on Xbox,PS3 that i can understand and cope with.
i know that they do sell more games on the consoles yes, because it is cheaper to buy a console then to build a gamers pc, and also they do sell more games for mix brands of consoles that dont come out for PC.
Cheat codes for consoles are easier to come by then the hacks are for PC. but with PC versions. hacks arent only limited to ammo, life, weapons, aimbots. some hacks can also gain entry into our database just by joining in our game and some can do it while ingame and change information and much other things can go wrong. Us having dedicated servers helps us to keep those type of people out, with our multiple admins and auto-admin. that kind of hack which has a much slighter chance of happening on an Xbox, and PS3.
not only that if you look at our clan size, and the size of other clans (example. Shattered Legions) their clan is easily over 75-100 members. ALL OF WHICH ARE VERY ACTIVE
what are the odds of half of them being able to join into the same server and play together if they dont have a dedicated clan server such as ourselves. that is the main reason why i am mad about this whole ordeal. I want to be able to hop online and play with the group that i have came to love gaming with. they are peaceful jokesters that never cause any trouble/or hack. i dont want to hop in a server and run into a bunch of people that are saying: Curse words, Racist remarks, Sexist remarks, and Hack. it just ruins the fun. when you kill someone and cant type back and forth with your friends because you turned off console due to the fact that someones cursing you or calling you bad names after you killed them.
i will say that I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND AND AM GOING TO CONTINUE MY PREORDER mainly for the Campaign type play. so that i can stand a chance once they do introduce the dedicated servers. i do understand what Dark said " In the long run they still get the money."
but my anger with them will stay until they return the dedicated servers.

I understand your post put that last  bit doesn't make sense.  If you buy this game you will be supporting all the BS iw and activision are pulling. Even if you are only buying it for the single player.  You buy the game they win.  We need to make a stand with our wallets.  We PC players need all the support we can get.  I highly doubt dedicated servers are going to be added and if for some reason they do decide to add them in it will be too late.  I honestly feel this may be the last COD title for PC.

It wont be to late like I have said once the people that do get the game and give them their voice then we will see a change which I am saying will be within the first month or two. Also they wont stop making any CoD games for the PC as long as people buy it weither no or later they will continue to make them.

You guys don't think I want this game badly, more than probably anybody else?  Cause I do want it, but I am taking a stand because they are screwing us now, they are screwing the PC gaming community as a whole and very likely for the future as well.  That is why I cancelled my preorder.  Heck, I may still get it on release day but I am trying to send a message to them that I'm not happy about this crap they are pulling and I won't stand for it.  However, chances are that I won't get this game until they fix the most important part of it!

Oh yeah, do you really think that will happen?  Have you seen their past support of the game?  Have you ever seen them make changes to the game because the community disliked something?  Has their support consisted of anything aside from patching bugs that caused issues in game?  Have they ever patched a feature?

The answer to all of these questions is a resounding NO!

How long have we been complaining about the spawn system in this game?  That is a major issue...STILL NOT FIXED, that's just to name one.

we all have diff. views on this maybe it has to do with our age?
some of us have seen stuff like this happen in other fields
to me ...
the only way to make a statement is to hit them in their wallet
Believe me they will notice the loss of pre-orders
money will make them open their eyes.....
will they do something about it?Huh?
probably not but you have to stand for something
or I guess you can run down and buy a PS3 and be happy ............NOT  LOL

Hear that kids, this is experience talking and I for one COMPLETELY agree with every word, couldn't have said it better myself.  You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything (to quote a great country song).

wow......so many side's/opinions to read. i can say in support I have done the following:

1. canceled all of my pre-orders (6 of them)
2. signed the petition
3. lost my lunch. Angry  and that was a good samich too!!

Yea not happy with this at all. UBI did the same thing a few years ago with Raven Shield...I think what makes me upset is that we as (MANY) communities and supporters of this game  were not even asked what we wanted or wished them to do with this decision, we did not even get the chance to ring in on it.

Sure canceling and signing a petition is great and i support i fully (#81053) but the personal feeling of being screwed can not be escaped. Thanks for getting together and supporting the movement!!!!

and IW .....kiss my butt! Kiss for now

I think it's pretty unlikely that they will add the functionality of dedicated servers.  They've made a decision and in making that decision, I'm sure that they considered that there would be an out-cry.  The only real variable is the volume of the out-cry.  I'm sure they figured they would take a hit on sales to some folks, and being that it's a business, they understand the bottom line.  They probably expect to take that hit because using this match making functionality is profitable enough to make up the difference.  Even if they decide to add the functionality, you're talking development, and that means money.  They don't make $60 off of every game sold.  There is overhead in selling each of those copies as well.  Also, the more functionality they provide, the more support they need to provide which also means more cost to them.  The question is if the lost sales revenue will make up for and exceed the cost to provide the technology.  It will take them some time to figure that out, so I wouldn't expect them to add the functionality anytime soon.  By the time they decide to add it, it may be too cost-prohibitive since they will be trying to develop more new games and this game will probably have been on the shelves for a while and possibly heading for a price drop anyway.

One thing I am not sure of is if cancelling pre-orders actually gets to Activision or not.  I always thought that pre-ordering through something like Gamestop just meant that they reserve a copy for you from their first shipment; I didn't think it meant that they special order a copy for you that they then cancel with the distributor when you cancel your order.  If you cancel your pre-order, I suspect that it's just one fewer copy that they hold back.

All that being said, I do believe that you shouldn't buy the game if you are unhappy with their decision.  I think it's a good idea based on principle even if it doesn't convince then to change their mind.

If everyone really wants to make a point, pre-order then cancel at one retailer. Then go to a new retailer and pre-order then cancel. If they see hundred of thousands of cancels, that would Make a difference lol. Joking laugh

OK here's my two cents on this disastrous MW2 development....

I'm new around here, transplanted from about three to four years of nightly HALO playing (just ask the wife) and we PC halo players have long suffered the indignity of being left behind in new versions.

Halo2 only ran on Vista (glad I didnt upgrade just to play it) and it turned out it was a flaky version too.

Halo3 for PC was rumored, but the new ODST release is only on the console.

So, we've been playing the original PC port since 2003.

I can keep myself amused with coD4 and 5.  I've barely even played in 4, after getting both with my vid card, so maybe sometime I'll go spend some evenings in 4.

I'm soo sad about this, I REALLY wanted to love this game, it was going to be my most favorite game ever, I was going to play it a ton and I was going to be awesome at it.  I was going to run around and knife everybody and I was going to throw knifes into peoples faces and then go and retrive them from their dead bodies.  I'm really sad that even if I do get this game the most important part to me which is multiplayer is going to suck badly and make it no fun.  How do they take something so dang fun and make it crappy.  It's like being given the gift to fly but only being able to do it in the sewers at night in complete darkness and nobody can see you.

Well the datacenters really don't care one way or another, I think you're asking about the Game Server Providers.  Our current GSP is pretty small, in fact we are the only ones that host Call of Duty servers, their other clients all do Counter Strike and Team Fortress 2 and whatnot, so they aren't too effected by the news, but I am on a mailing list for GSP admins across the world and they are pretty ticked, how do you think I heard about this in the first place?

Here is a thought....
to bad we could not get the Graphic card company's in this for support to our cause....
cause if their is no MP  why do we need to get such great graphic cards?
the only reason i spent so much on my card is for the MP experience on games!
If their is no MP I would not spend the money on the Card.
I understand that their still will be MP. Its that they are trying to control it more and in the future it will be all about the dollars and what they can charge for dedicated servers, map packs ect.ect.

Everybody sign this petition, it's already over 1000 signed.  It needs to be well over 100,000...

well we are at 157224 and climbing .....
but to what avail??? I do feel that we are seeing
the beginging of the end of Dedicated servers Sad
The times of us looking for all of our buddy's on
certain servers is coming to a close.
The time of eaither having to pay for dedicated servers
or being forced into their way or the highway times are upon us!!
I call all PC gamers  to come together and fight IW/activision
and not buy this game!! take it from the most wanted to
the worst sales due to managment decisions (dedicated servers)
please dont lay down and take it !!
you dont in game so why would you now!!! LOL

Well I am still going to play it. Send IW my thoughts on the whole thing. Oh and if it means that I can get ready for when you guys get it when Dedicated Servers are back I will do so. LOL I will be the #1 MW2 BPN player.
You know the chances of getting dedicated servers if they haven't announced something before the game hits the streets is EXTREMELY small.  If they don't do announce something before day 1 it isn't going to happen, based on their history of making changes to the game after it is launched.  Do you think they care if you aren't happy with the multiplayer experience after you already bought the game?  No, they already got your money, they aren't going to fix anything like that, there will be no new features added to the game.  They will fix bugs and glitches (or try) but they won't add new functionality.  So if you think you're going to buy this game and give them feedback that they need to have dedicated servers and they are going to listen to you then you are completely wrong and living in a dream world.  You need to make sure BEFORE you actually buy the game that you are willing to pay the $60 for a crappy multiplayer experience...that you think the single player and spec ops alone are worth $60 to you.

It hurts but it's true, although I think the numbers will swing back our way eventually.
