Hello Team,

I am super stoked! I have been in the market for a new video card and had $400 fall from the sky (almost). I have been looking at the 5870's for over a week now but could not get one because they are sold out everywhere. I failed twice today, ordering a a Gigabyte and Asus 5870. Both times I was paying via PayPal and the item sold out Sad

I found out 3 days ago that there was a internet rumor going around that Sapphire will be releasing there 5870 Vapor-X flavor on Nov 3rd. I was sitting on my couch an hour ago, while the wife was on my PC, with my iphone googling any new info about the Vapor-X 5870 when I saw a link to newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102861 there it was my new video card in stock. I about pushed the little lady off my PC (joking) and picked this bad boy up for $415 2nd day shipping. About 3 minutes later it sold out at newegg.

Anyways, I am stoked and had to share my experience.

Incase anyone doesn't know, the Vapor-X version is quieter and cooler than the standard 5870. It is also 1.1x faster than the standard version. In Brittian this card is marked up by 65 pound ($100 us) and I got my for $10 over the standard.

I will see you guys soon in game with way way higher FPS.

Peace,

I just read that when the launch the new drivers for those cards it's gonna unlock alot more power too.  Now just to be clear, the GTX 395 is going to wipe the floor with the whole line of ATI cards but they are pretty good for right now.

John,
I would probably considered it but my brother in-law would disown me lol. He was the first person that I called when I got it and he was already wheeling and dealing to get the Gx2 lol. Currently he has a 256mb video card and is looking for a upgrade to up his frames per sec on a few RPGs.

Sweet! Now I wait for 6months to a year and pick up a second one for Crossfire. I think with this card, my i7 920 will be the bottel neck of my system. Still loving my Vertex 120 it is like switching to broadband after bein on dialup all your life.

Ain't this a kick in the junk?

HD 5970 dual RV870 to come this month (5970X2)

AMD partners are working on a dual-core R800 card, codenamed Hemlock and from what we learned, the card should launch in late November.

Samples are in the works and cards are in development and the Radeon 5970 should be the brand for the top card, but since we are not aware of any boxes with this brand, this can easily change.

Once it launches this dual card will officially be the fastest card on the market, but only until Nvidia unveils its dual Fermi card that is also expected by early December. ATI might be the fastest only for a few weeks, but we are quite sure that both dual cards will have a lot of availability issues throughout 2009 and probably in early 2010 as well.

Yep, and it'll always be that way, just sucks to get the best and then a couple of days later they announce something that will run twice as fast.  That's why I'll be waiting for the GTX 395 to come out!

What if it doesn't quit but it won't run the games you want to play at an acceptable level anymore?

Have not had that happen in years...............
especially if you can buy the best avail at the time.
you pay more but you should get at least 4-5 years or more out of your cards

So is this a new build or are you just upgrading and adding to your Dell?

So you're going 6GB of DDR3 right?

I currently have a cheap set of 6GB DDR3 at 1066Mhz. I am upgrading to 6GB Dominators 1600Mhz that will allow me to OC my i7 2.66Ghz processor to 3.6Ghz or above.

BTW I dont know what to think about my current 5870, I have an issue already where on my second screen the video seems to flash alot at different times. Some times its when I am scrolling down on a webpage other times just at random. Hope I did not get a lemon card lol. I have a tech ticket in with Sapphire. I will keep you guys posted.

I have not seen any imporovment in game but the flicker screen I was getting with the 9800Gx2 when I was gassed. I still average 150fps with everything on. My gx2 was doing the same thing. This card temps are low though. I hit 60 C when I played for 30 mins earlier today. My Gx2 idles in the upper 50s lol.

I had that flicker issue on scrolling down websites, typically a driver update fixes the issue.  Have you went out to ATI to get the newest driver?  If so have you tried reinstalling it?  I know this is a little tougher problem with ATI because they hardly ever come out with new drivers.
