I know this wasn't directed toward me but I have been running Windows 7 x64 for over a year now, it is better than Vista (which wasn't as bad as people mad it out to be) and it is also better than Windows XP. You basically get the best of both worlds...you get the security and auto diagnostics and auto troubleshooter with auto fixer from Vista and you get the speed and stability of XP! I recommend getting Windows 7 hands down, but make sure you get the 64 bit version of it (both 32 bit and 64 bit come standard in the box). Everything is going to 64 bit and the problem with 32 bit is that it doesn't support more then 3 or 3.5GB or RAM on your system...

There is one thing that has been bugging me lately if you all remember that problem in vista when you would double click an application and it wouldn't work but running it as administrator would fix it (hopefully) well this has been happening to me in windows 7 also, fortunately it does give you an error message about a missing .dll so running as admin would fix the problem.

Could you not just register the .dll instead of needing to run the app as an admin?

No, in windows 7 you need permission to open the folder where the DLL is located, not to access it itself.

All part of the increased security, and I completely agree with it too. If you aren't registered as an admin on the system then you shouldn't be editing stuff like that. If you are an admin on the system you shouldn't have this problem, at least I don't...ever.

Does it never work unless you are an admin? Or is it that once you run as an admin, it is then resolved? If it never works unless you are an admin, that's not good for business use.

No it works for the most part, and always if the software is Win 7 compatible or if the software is installed correctly by an administrator OR the admin account has setup the ability for users to install software. It's security and it works as its intended, it's intended to restrict kids that aren't allowed to install stuff for whatever reason, user accounts on a computer that haven't been given permissions to install stuff, and finally hackers that are trying to compromise the system.
