HDMI Help for graphics card

G'day all.  I know there are many technical people here so I thought I'd pick yer brains for some ideas.  I have my PC connected to my flatscreen LCD TV via a standard vga cable.  The quality is great however I wanted to use HDMI in order to take advantage of sound and video on one cable.

My card (nvidia GTX285)came with a DVI to HDMI converter so I installed it, attached the cable but the video quality is terrible!  I really don't know what the issue is.  Is anyone else using their TV and pc via hdmi? Do I have to tweak any specific settings because I find it hard to believe the quality is so bad.

I have the 8800 GTX OC 768
I use it to watch movies on my Sony XBR 46" flat screen with no problems
How good of a cable did you get?
The more expensive ( larger cables allow more data transfer )
so don't go cheap when it comes to your HDMI cables

You can find a good cable at www.monoprice.com it's where I get all of my cable, great prices (unbelievable) and great product as well!  As for your issue, it could be cable, that would be my best guess...hard telling though.

Thanks guys - I have the "monster" cables which are gold plated so they should be good.  Having said that, I will try a diff cable to see.

So I tried a diff HDMI and also installed the dongle to use component cables and both yeild the same output.  I dunno, I give up!  I guess the VGA cable is the way to go but I find it odd that using HDMI or component cables would have such a terrible color to it.  Wierd.

You could have a video card with a bad HDMI port on it...have you tried using a VGA to HDMI adapter and running it that way to see what happens?

My card doesn't have an HDMI port.  It came with the dongle to convert it from DVI to HDMI.  I have a PC DIN type connection that I can plug a dongle in to use component cable also.   Who knows, as I said, seems strange that the video quality isn't as good as a vga cable but it is.  I do love technology but sometimes it so so frustrating getting it all to work!

Yes, I did try comp cables - same result....I just don't get it quite honestly.  Oh well, vga cable works fine.

Did you try both of them with both ports on the video card?  Did you go into the nVidia control panel and set it up for TV stuff?
