EVGA officially announces their dual-socket 270-GT-W555 motherboard which will most likely be the most impressive X58-based motherboard ever to be released. We already showed another article with a picture on this dual-socket board, but we did not expect EVGA to launch this particular model this fast. EVGA calls their latest flagship “The ultimate in X58-motherboards” My next motherboard! The LGA1366-based motherboard from EVGA comes (besides two 1366-sockets) with a bunch of additional hardware but first things first. This thing is big! No really, the size will definitely not fit any average sized cases but then again, this board is dedicated to all the extreme overclockers and enthusiasts. If you didn’t notices, and if I didn’t already mentioned it twice in the last 10 lines, this board features two LGA1366-sockets offering support for the 45nm Xeon 5500-cpu’s and oncoming 32nm Westmere-based processors. It can allocate up to 48GB of DDR3 1600+MHz+ in a triple-channel configuration with a staggering 12 memory-slots. My next motherboard! The board also has eight USB 2.0 ports as well as two USB3.0 ports powered by a NEC controller-chip. The board also has eight SATA ports, six are the current SATA 3Gbps-standard an the two red ones, you may have guessed it, are based on the new and oncoming 6Gbps standard which doubles the speed of new SATA III storage devices. The old trusty ICH10R comes back into play when talking about the south-bridge. The board doesn’t only satisfy the ones that are CPU-needy. The 270-GT also comes with seven PCI-E slots which are provided with additional PCI-E lane by two NF200 chips placed behind the PCI-E slots. The two NF200 chips combined with the X58-chipset are providing fully x16 2.0 speeds for four slots (slot 1, 3, 5 and 7) making it an excellent board for a multi-graphics setup, I.E: Tri-Sli + PhysX. My next motherboard! So, this board will probably be one of the most significant and impressive pieces around on the market, but will of course come with a price-tag, users will have to dig deep into their pockets because the retail price will be around $700.

Sweet mobo! Seems a little overkill for a gaming machine though, don't ya think? I would think that would be better suited in a server with dual 1366 sockets, and all those ram slots and pci slots.

theres no such thing as overkill for gaming either, with that setup if you were to max out the 1,3,5,&7 slots for Grapphics and even put half of the max ram in it. then that type of build would run any game that comes out within the next 10 years easily. all and all you were right about reaching deep in your pocket because just to max out the 4 graphics slots with 395's or 5970's would cost around $1400, also gotta have the 2 processors which im not sure of the price on those but i can guess are at a descent high price. and just 1 4 gig stick of DDR3 is priced at over $250 by its self. if you do build this pc, you had better take some excellent pics of individual parts and as a whole to put on the sight so that i can drool looking at it.

Oh, I wouldn't max it out at first, this is one of those motherboards that you buy because it is very upgradable. The mobo would probably last me 6-9 years, there's just tons of room on it for tons of upgrades. I'd probably start with (1) 8-core CPU, 16GB of DDR3 ram, maybe 1-2 GTX 395 cards, a couple of SATA 6 SSD drives in RAID 0. The more exciting thing is all the PCIe slots, since the really fast SSD drives are coming out for PCIe you would have space to run multiple SSD which would allow you to run like 3+Gbit/sec. Then later on down the road you can always beef it up without having to buy a whole new computer or build a whole new computer. Would definitely have to get like a 1800 watt power supply though...
P.S. I'm putting it in the new HAF-X case, have you seen that thing yet, just about as good as the motherboard!

except for the fact that you would have to upgrade for the next series of directx The motherboard is definitely the best of the best, but 700$ would be way out of my budget. You could buy a "good" motherboard every 2 years and still be spending less than that, and you would also get hardware upgrades like new cpu sockets, ram, etc. Very nice, but very pricey hardware has to go with it :/ And ya schlup, that HAF X looks sick! haf's are my favorite series of cases me thinks

It supports DX11 now, do you know how long it's going to be before DX12 is out and games are actually using it? About 6-9 years by my calculations. DX11 really isn't even out yet!

My point was, it doesn't really make sense to splurge on a pc you plan on keeping for 10 years. Imagine all the poor especially saps went all out on 7900gtx's, only to find out they had to upgrade to get phsyx support. Technology is constantly evolving and you might miss out on something good!

Good point and point taken...so maybe not that long but as you know technology also takes a little while to become mainstream. AND if you keep your ear to the ground and know where to look like I do then you should know what is coming down the pipe for the next couple years in advancements. So you're at least covered for 3-4 years if you do it right. This motherboard has so many things that haven't even launched yet it makes it a good forward thinking board.

Definitely. Without a doubt, that will be the board people will be using when breaking all the overclocking/3dmark records and such
