The bearded one says Avatar has finally made it possible.

George Lucas thinks the time has come for Star Wars to get the 3D treatment.

Although the filmmaker has been looking for a way to revisit the trilogies in 3D for some time now, it appears that the phenomenal success of the 3D sci-fi epic Avatar has finally pushed it closer to becoming a reality.

"[I'm] happy it's so successful, and worked very well in 3D," Lucas told Access Hollywood at Sunday's Golden Globes after party. "Haven't been a big fan of 3D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3D."

Lucas added, "We've been looking for years and years and years of trying to take Star Wars and put it in 3D ... But, [the] technology hasn't been there. We've been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen."

"3D" still hurts my eyes.  It is not really 3D in my opinion.  I saw this movie and left with a headache.  The 3D is awkward.  It's like a bunch of cardboard cut-outs that are closer and further away.  So, while one person might appear closer to you than another, that person by themselves still appears 2D...just like a cardboard cut-out.

That would be fantastic!  I'm a huge Star Wars fan......can't wait.  I would hazzard a guess that eventually all movies will be released in 3D.  What are everyone elses thoughts?  I saw avatar and I personally thought it was great! (and I'm picky when it comes to movies)  Now when is the virtual 3d gaming unit coming!!?

Did you see Avatar in 3D?  They have really made some advancements.  I saw it in 3D and felt like I was right there with them in the same room.  You should give it another chance.

I did see Avatar in 3D.  Liked the movie, but am not at all sold on 3D yet.  I got the 3D effect, yes, but it was like a bunch of 2D objects that were closer and further away.  I have been wondering for years why things weren't being made in 3D anymore.

They need to make the picture brighter when projecting in 3D. The glasses really dim the picture.

I have yet to see avatar in 3d,  but I consider star wars 4, 5, and 6 pieces of art, and perfect just the way they are  Cheesy

I suspect that it's not far off that we won't need the glasses at all.

The new TV's they displayed this year at CES don't need glasses, we're there, all the 3D TV's will come out this year!
