So as a few of you know my MW2 on my steam account says "cheats Detected". Steams last update caused my game to crash repetidley on 1/28. Now today ( 1/29) my game says that i cheat. Well guess it would have been nice if I would have known I was cheating Angry. I have sent steam the following message...

" My question is simple, what happend. The date today is 1/29/2010, upon the last update of steam my call of duty MW2 game crashed several times. Now today I did my taxes and cleaned my computer up useing Ccleaner, registery mechanic, and system mechanic. On completion of running my cleaners I hoped onto teamspeak 3 w/my team then i started steam then MW2. I started to play a multi player game and to my complet astonishment I was kicked w/a message reading "cheats detected". Now if u look at my stats on my account u will find that this is simply not possible...lol. Before sending u guys this message I have read on your forums that bans are not debatable which i can fully understand why!! I am assuming that this is not a ban but some kind of error since it has occured only after steams last update which has caused my game to crash as I have stated before. Thank you for your time.  "

If anybody has any help or suggestions on how to handle this w/steam besides the steps that i have already taken please share. I will keep this post up to date w/the replys from steam.

Yeah, keep us up to date.  My recommendation is to contact Steam customer service about it.  You have to register for their customer service and it takes a few days to get back with you but Steam has no moderators viewing the forums so you're not going to get any help there.

I share your frustration Brother but I know your just frustrated, and deep down inside, you really are thankful that Steam brings us countless hours of enjoyment when our games do work!  Smiley  Has anyone else been on your PC?  Perhaps they loaded something without you knowing.  I'm sure Steam will correct this with a valid explanation - don't see why they wouldn't.  Good luck!

If in fact someone else did load something on your computer without your knowledge they WILL NOT remove the ban.  They expect you to have your computer secure and never to allow unauthorized access to it at anytime.  If indeed it is a mistake they may fix it but be aware that it doesn't make mistakes very often.  You got VAC banned is actually what happened.  I wish you luck in this...also, were you just banned from MW2 or all your steam games?

on a positive side you filed your taxes?
if you are getting money back and if nothing comes back
from steam you could go get another copy of MW2
and lock down your comp and get back to having fun

Thanks guys for all your feed back! I am in fact the only one whom uses the computer. I have had a problem w/steam about three years ago though similar to this. At that time I only had CSS and DODS on my last account which was banned just like my current situation. No rime or reason I got vac banned and steam wouldn't help me then. Also to answer schlups question, it was only MW2 which is what i was playn when steam updated. After the update I hoped back on MW2 which crashed a couple of times (normal for steam). Didn't have any problems till this afternoon when i got done w/my taxes and I went to play. Very frustrating!!!!!!

Well finally heard back from steam today. As expected they completly refuse any help. They are basically sayn that if you are banned then that is that as it is stated in the forums and your subscription agreement, which means that they must think that they are god and make no mistakes. Any how I HATE STEAM!!!!!!!! Soon as my tax money comes I will Purchase MW2 on another account, maybe. Remember everybody dont just e~sign your legeal agreaments make sure you read the small print! Keep in mind that if anybody ever meats they guy that runs steam I will pay good money I you would kindley kick the "censored" out of him!...LOL...Keep your eyes open for invites from me once I get my tax money.

I think the last thing you should do is buy another copy of the game or use Steam for anything.  If they are actually making the mistake but nobody holds them accountable, why would it ever change?

There's no other options, you either use steam or you don't play MW2...it's required.  So if he wants to play MW2 then he has to use Steam to do it.

I understand that.  That's why I said not to buy another copy of the game, because he would have to use Steam to play it.

Definitely try BC2.  Because of your post I went researching and there are lots of people who claim that Steam banned them for seemingly no reason and won't explain why or exactly what happened.  They were even cocky enough to put a post up on their forums saying something like "If you are vac banned, it's because you cheated.  Our system DID NOT MAKE A MISTAKE."  I work in the computer industry for a living, and in my experience when you start being cocky enough to say your system doesn't make mistakes, you are due for a rude awakening.

Ehh, don't say that most bans are incorrect though.  Steam hardly makes mistakes for banning cheaters.  Yes, you will hear a LOT of bs stories saying that they "didn't" cheat, when they really did and are just trying to play inoccent.  I know a few fellas at steam, and even a buddy of mine who worked for the anti cheat dept.

There are multiple ways to get banned via cheats, it could even be that you downloaded a skin for a gun and that could get you banned!  (cham skins)

Vac also tags hackers and then the ban comes about 2 weeks later.  In those two weeks I'd assume they would be watching the account for more activity among other things.

Now I'm not saying Detox hacks, but I'm also not saying he didn't.  I'm just saying that if they banned you its for a reason.  And wether you knew what caused it or not, if they pick something up its game over.

Just giving the other POV, I HATE cheaters.

They should be able to tell you why.  Their system obviously detects something that alerts them.  They should be able to at least give a general description.  In a scenario like that, it is easy to have a bug that would cause a false alarm.  I see stuff like that every day.  They should look into some of them rather than just assume they don't make mistakes.

If they tell what tipped them off then the other hackers get away scott free because they can just disable or delete the alerting file.

All in all I didnt hack and the only games that I reskin in detail is css and dods. Anyways I got a new account (TY to the tax system for once...lol), so keep any eye out for invites please. P.S. I still hate steam! Also just a side not, if steam is so good then how did somebody hax their data base a few years back to get peoples bank info..hah..guess they are not as godley as they think. Funny thing is the guy did it just to prove he could, sad thing is that he is now doing FED time for proving that steam, valve and vac are not full proof and definetly not god! Smiley

No one said they are god, and their strong point is cheaters, not database hackers.
