I have used this in the past Battlefield games as well:

1. Hold down your Crouch button, default is Ctrl
2. Bring up a chat window, default is J, K, and I believe L
3. Release Ctrl
4. Hit Enter

You are now "toggled" Crouched. Hit your Crouch button again to get out of Crouch.

That's weird...is that like a special command?  Does it work even after restarting the game or do you have to do that everytime?

You have to do this every time you want to stay crouched. So if you uncrouch, you have to do this again.

Well that's way too much work for it to just stay crouched!

This doesn't work all the time.  I've tried it many times and only twice has it worked.

Make sure you release your crouch button before hitting enter.
