With Modern Warfare 2 still looking like the hot and sexy thing that it is, you probably haven't yet begun to think about the next one. But like all young beauties, time will take it's toll, and you'll gradually lose interest. Then one day as you sit at a coffee shop -- newspaper in hand with a latte perched atop it's ceramic counterpart -- the fresh new Call of Duty 7 will strut by, prying your eyes from the funnies and stirring emotions you believed to be long dead...

Then again maybe you won't give a "censored" about the yet-to-be-named CoD 7, as many people were still playing Modern Warfare when World at War came out. However, that's neither here nor there as it's 2010 holiday release has been confirmed yesterday by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. He said that they will continue to release an annual installment of the Call of Duty franchise, but did not announce the developer. Due to what Infinity Ward had said about wanting to work on a new title, in combination with Treyarch's David Kim's LinkedIn profile, we can safely assume that Treyarch is the developer holding the reins here.

Another interesting bit from Kotick was that the company intends to take the CoD franchise in the direction of subscriptions, saying:

"If you think about the success we have had in other categories on subscriptions, you can get a sense of the direction we want to take the franchise."

I don't know exactly how they plan on making that work, but considering Kotick's keen business sense, I don't doubt that they will.

That's what I've been hearing it will be...

However, I think they already did a Vietnam one.  I'd personally like to see a present day or close to present day one like Desert Storm or something like that.

It's in the single player and will be added to multiplayer with the first map pack.

Hasnt there been enough games including the COD titles that have covered the WW1/WW2 guns....how many times can we milk out the M1 Grand and Tompson, ect.....

And since its been conformed already that the next one will be Pay-2-Play, i dont think i will get it. No Ded-servers, hackers, IWnet sucks, and paying for it on time of the game itself, no thanks Sad

It amazes me too.

~$14.95/month * ~10 million WoW subscribers = a lot of money for Blizzard!

Yeah, I'm not sure it's gonna be pay to play...I think I know what you are tallking about with CFO of Activision saying that but I believe he was talking about StarCraft 2 and no CoD7.  However, even if CoD7 is not pay to play I won't buy it if it doesn't have dedicated servers.  We know it won't have IWNET because Infinity Ward is not going to give that to Treyarch but if it has anything like it I'm not getting it.

If you do have to pay monthly like wow it will most likely have big servers for either thousands of people or hundreds and it probably will be very different than the normal cod we play so i doubt it will have dedicated servers but i never regret paying 14.95 ea month when i was playing wow because the game was tons of fun for a long time and it was totally worth it, so if they managed to make a game like wow or as big as wow or even close to it with a call of duty gameplay i will def buy it and pay for it.

I would eat my own vomit before I pay to play a game that the developers set up to have such hacker potential as IWNet.  Hello IWNet, this is 1998, just calling to let you know about texture hacks and how easy they are to avoid.  Q2 managed to get it in the end, you can't?

Thats what i was thinking.  If they release a game thats just the same old basic multiplayer cod with a subscription, nobody will be subscribing.  BUT if they pull some revolutionary s*** and make a game with expansive and re playable elements somewhere along the lines of WoW or another MMO, it might take some looking into.  Imagine a huge open world fps, where everyone has specific levels, professions, custom weapons, along with a world of AI.  We will have to wait and see, but im guessing its gonna be a flop lolz

This will never happen, closest they will get is a movie about CoD.  Now, they will change for DLC aka Map Packs (that's my guess) but they won't charge monthly fee.

They could do the WoW stuff now..make WoW a FPS game and add new animations and you have a huge FPS..same crap.  It would be revolutionary if they did something...new. Smiley

I've never played WoW..I've only seen screen shots.  Only MMORPG I've played was Ultima Online and that was early 90's when it was new and I was like 9.
