NVIDIA GT300 ''Fermi'' Detailed

Quote:
NVIDIA's upcoming flagship graphics processor is going by a lot of codenames. While some call it the GF100, others GT300 (based on the present nomenclature), what is certain that the NVIDIA has given the architecture an internal name of "Fermi", after the Italian physicist Enrico Fermi, the inventor of the nuclear reactor. It doesn't come as a surprise, that the codename of the board itself is going to be called "reactor", according to some sources.

Based on information gathered so far about GT300/Fermi, here's what's packed into it:

•Transistor count of over 3 billion
•Built on the 40 nm TSMC process
•512 shader processors (which NVIDIA may refer to as "CUDA cores")
•32 cores per core cluster
•384-bit GDDR5 memory interface
•1 MB L1 cache memory, 768 KB L2 unified cache memory
•Up to 6 GB of total memory, 1.5 GB can be expected for the consumer graphics variant
•Half Speed IEEE 754 Double Precision floating point
•Native support for execution of C (CUDA), C++, Fortran, support for DirectCompute 11, DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, and OpenC

So knowing that these cards are going to be launching later this month and you just bought to GTS 250's so what are you going to do when these cards launch?

I know a lot of people are anticipating getting the new video card but the price range is still pretty vague.

Pre-orders have already started on some websites.  GTX 470's are starting at $500 and GTX 480's start at $650.  These are unofficial prices though, and Nvidia stated official msrp's have yet to be announced

DO NOT PRE-ORDER THESE CARDS!!!!  ALL CURRENT PRE-ORDERS OF THESE CARDS ARE HOAXES AND THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN.  IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY NVIDIA.

There maybe some pre-orders that are legit toward the end of March but I'd be very careful about WHO you order from, make sure they are very well known and legit.

Well that's not a fair comparison, if you want to compare to the 5970 you need to wait until the 495 that comes out in May or sometime around there.  That will be an apples to apples comparison of graphics cards.

P.S. I got $5 that says (1) 495 will beat your (2) crossfired 5970's.

495 beat 4 gpus? not likely if u think about it there 495 is a rebranded 295 with extra cores and mhz allowing it to overclock higher then the 200 ser for the money it not gonna be worth it and just for that im buying one of them and im gonna run some benchies and test it myself Tongue

Well that is a completely false statement.  The 495 is a COMPLETELY new build based on the Fermi architecture.  We'll know when they get the benchmarks out for the 480, if the 480 can beat (1) 5970...or really just come close to beating it then the (1) 495 WILL beat the (2) 5970's in Crossfire hands down as the 495 will be (2) 480's sandwiched together on one card.
