See, I would go with the ASUS, they have a better reputation for their motherboards always being rock solid, especially their top of the line products. Plus you get a free X-Fi sound card! That's worth like $100 right there!

I would also have to say the EVGA. I use the EVGA X58 SLI LE (a junior cousin to the X58 Classified) and the quality is great. EVGA is also known for their great Customer Service. Every question I asked was answered expeditiously and thoroughly. Love the company!

I have had eVGA as well as ASUS in the past, I am running an ASUS now so that will tell you my experiences from before. Stick with the ASUS, you'll be happier in the end.

Yeah, if we were talking graphics cards I would say go EVGA, but since it is mobo, you have to go with the leader. It's kinda like if you're gonna buy a monitor, TV, or front load washer and dryer you would go with Samsung, but if you are getting an air conditioner or a dish washer, you don't choose Samsung. IMO...

Stuntin, that board is known to suffer from very high power usage. So most likely that is what was causing your lock up issues. If you were running anywhere close to high utilization of your power supply this is what most likely caused your issues.
Not to mention that is probably the worst board that ASUS has ever come out with in terms of issues and reviews, and it's not one of their high end models, it's a mid to low end model.

Yep, that's what it was. That bios that they brought out increased power usage. Which in turn maxed your PSU with those (2) 260GTX cards! Why didn't you do a CMOS reset?

I would say wait another month or 2 and see how 6-core processors are going to play out, because both amd and intel will be coming out with options. but if you really cant wait, asus p6td + i7 930 + 6gig ddr3 = a sizeable upgrade from what you have now

The new 6-core AMD's will work on the AM3 platform, so you can get a board now and buy the chip later if you wanted. No idea how they'll perform yet though.

For the Intel to AMD debate, honestly the main question you need to ask is how much you REALLY want to spend. I can't justify spending more than a grand on a computer at this point in time so I went with AMD and was still able to purchase an all out awesome rig. Honestly my opinion would be AMD. You can purchase the 965 for $180 and then when the 6-core comes out you can get one and throw it in your AM3 Mobo.

Why not get the i7 980X, that thing is 6-cores and spanks the competition, overclocks well too!

You should really set up the RAID before you install the OS. I don't think it can be done after the OS is all set up.

You HAVE to install the RAID before the OS. He'll just have to format all the drives when he is ready to setup the RAID. Should be good performance with RAID 0 on 3 drives.
