Im fixing a laptop for a friend...  It wont boot it says media failure failed 2 boot... I think its the cmos battery any help plz? its on a toshiba laptop.

You can take the CMOS battery out and then put it back in to reset the BIOS.  But it says media failure so most likely it's the floppy drive, cd-rom/dvd-rom, or hard drive.  Maybe something went out.  If I were you I'd reset the CMOS, try it, if it doesn't work then disable all your start up options except for hard drive.  See if that boots, make sure there are no stick drives plugged in anywhere.  Try it again, if that doesn't work do a hard reset on the laptop.  If that doesn't work trade out the HDD with a known working one and see if that works.

Sounds like the hard drive died.
