Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack Also Features Ridiculous Price

Capping off a fairly terrible fortnight of news surrounding Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward comes word this morning that Modern Warfare 2's map pack is one of the most over-priced pieces of downloadable content we've ever seen.

Popping onto Xbox Live spokesman Larry Hryb's podcast to promote Modern Warfare 2's upcoming "Stimulus Package" map pack (which is launching first on Microsoft's console), Infinity Ward's Robert bowling revealed that the five maps - two of which are old maps being re-released for this game - will cost 1200 Microsoft Points.

Or, $15.

For five multiplayer maps.

Fifteen. Dollars. Or, if you're so inclined, £10, €14, or AUD$19.

Hoo boy.

Granted this is still for Xbox 360 and we still haven't heard anything about the PC so this is pure speculation but my bet is that it will cost $15 on PC too.  IDK, it's way over priced but I'll probably still pick it up.

well that is what happens when a game takes off and so many people buy it, they can charge an arm and a leg for stuff and then know people will buy it. I love MW2 but they failed with no dedicated servers and the amount of hackers is just crazy.

Thanks, William

Very true, it really is pretty bad that they don't even allow vote kicks.  That would take care of a lot of it!

Why aren't they free downloads like the other games? Just because they think they can make money they have to charge us. That's wrong. Why weren't we charged when COD 5 added more maps?

that is a ridiculous price!!!
Why whould they charge us anything if they already charged us an extra $10 for the game itself!!!
i WILL not get it unless it is free.

Because they can, they created IWNET for just this reason.  Activision is greedy, if they can make more they will squeeze it for every cent.  Just think, if everybody that bought this game buys the map pack it's an extra 25% pure profit, I know we're talking about at least $250 million profit.  Shareholder will love that!

Treyarch is the developer, Activision is the publisher.

They would probably incorporate a key with each map pack to register to a persons Steam account, so only 1 person per pack

$15 seems fairly reasonable to me, considering the game was 70 wasn't it?  Still, if it is just new maps and nothing else then yea, maybe $10 would be okay but considering the minimal work it takes them to create a map, you would think it would be a FREE add-on, assuming no extra game play was added.  I guess as much as I could complain about it I'll still end up buying it!

the last 2 call of dutys (world at war and modern warfare 1) had there fair share of map packs, i know world at war had around 9 extra multiplayer maps and 3 extra zombie maps, all included in patches free of charge.  Thats the main reason any price seems unreasonable.  This is nothing new to consoles though, so i guess we cant complain.  Ill just play BC2 instead >.<

We're getting awful close to the release for Xbox, at least we'll be able to see what we're buying based on some videos the Xbox users upload to YouTube.

Exactly!

Right now there is way too much speculation on what might or might not be in this Map Pack. I have heard everything from just 5 maps, all the way up to 10 maps, 3 guns, 3 new game modes, and some new Spec Ops missions.

No one knows for sure (except IW).

Also, the only price being put out is that for the XBox users. Nothing yet about PS3 or PC prices (if any).

My purchasing decision will be based on the quality/quantity of the content. It all depends on IW.

FOURZEROTWO posted on Twitter the following:

"Just saw this on the dashboard. Inside Xbox's great breakdown of all the new MW2 maps. Official trailer this week!"

Below is a picture of what he attached. Looks like the details of what is included will be answered this week.

If you own an XBox then you might be able to see it for yourself.

Thanks for posting this Schlup!

The 3 new maps look nice!! I can't wait to try them out.

The vid also mentions some new weapons, perks, and spec ops missions. It will be interesting to see what new weps/perks they introduce.

What? I didn't hear about new weapons, perks, or spec ops missions?  I thought they would release the Global Thermonuclear War gametype but it doesn't appear that they will.  I think I'm most looking forward to the old map from CoD4 called Crash...I loved that map!

The audio did not say it but the text at the bottom of the screen during the video stated:

"Check the Description for: Gametypes, Maps, Weapons, Perks and Spec Op Missions!"

It looks like it will include more than just the maps.

That text was an overlay by the poster, this was not an official video...it was by a user.
