I wanna get a PS3 for folding 24/7 and watching a few Blu-ray movies every now and again.  Anybody got a PS3 they want to sell?

When we were looking at getting a console system it was between the new XBox 360 and PS3. The kicker was that the PS3 included a built-in Blu-Ray player and had built-in wireless capabilities. The XBox had an optional HD player (now basically obsolete) and needed another optional component for wireless capability. We had the PS1 and PS2 so we were biased towards the PS3.

Now that I have found that the PS3 can perform Folding it makes our decision even better. The fact that the folding software is already installed makes it easier than ever. The wife does not like having the system on all the time so I normally use it for folding on the weekends. You can set the software to automatically turn the system off after the completion of a folding unit (normally 6 hours in duration). Basically this makes it a 'Set It and Forget It' operation.

Yeah, I have a Xbox 360 and while I feel it is a better or rather has become a better console for online gaming...I don't do any of that, I use it to watch DVD's and that's about it.  I've sunk about $700 into the Xbox 360 which is tough to chew on now that I don't use it at all.  I'd almost be interested in a trade for PS3.  I have the Xbox 360 Premium which has the HDD, I have 3 wireless controllers and the WiFi module for it as well.

Also the PS3 has games that run in 1080P mode whereas the xbox does not; to my knowledge the Xbox only does 720P.  Also with Sony you get FREE access on-line but with Xbox you don't.  It wasn't much of a choice for me when I picked a console....PS3 is a much better buy IMO.

I didn't realize the software came with the PS3 for folding - guess I'll get it going there too!  Smiley

That is true. That is still something I cannot believe. People are actually paying extra for online access on the XBox. You already are paying for your internet subscription from your provider plus you have to pay Microsoft for additional access?? Unbelieveable. The PS3 has no additional online costs.

The 1080p mode on the PS3 is an additional perk I forgot about.

The software for folding on the PS3 is built-in.
Here is a link describing it: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-PS3

I love how the PS3 shows a map of the world with real-time dots representing where PS3's are currently running the folding program.

I have two - you can have one for $500   Tongue  Seriously though, a standard PS3 is somewhere around $250 these days, are you set on a used one?

I can't find one for less than $300, I don't need a new one, I'm trying to find one for like $150 or so...

I might know someone now that I think of it....I recall a buddy of mine mentioning he wanted one with a larger hard drive.  You want me to ask him?  If it works out I even have a PS3 box I can pack it in for you for shipping down to Missouri.

I also was incorrect about the Xbox not supporting 1080P.  My bud just told me the newer versions (Elite)support it; the first generations only did 720P.

Yeah!  Ask him if he'd sell it to me.  Also please get specs and let me know what all would be included as far as controllers and stuff.
