Bad Company 2 Server Options Changed

So lately I've been disappointed in the popularity of the Bad Company 2 server, there haven't been very many people on it playing.  I'm beginning to wonder if it is even worth keeping around since no one is playing on it since we have to pay a special chunk of money every month for just that server.  Anyways, figured I would keep it fresh, switched to Conquest and made it Hardcore.  We'll see how that plays out for a while.  Also updated the server to the R8 server patch this morning (newest one).

I was trying that but unfortunately the server kicks you if idle too long.

Yeah, unfortunately that is a hard coded server option that can't be changed.  As long as it senses movement from the player you will not be kicked, but otherwise you do.  Might try somehow holding a movement button down and see how that goes.  Maybe jump in a chopper, and hold down the up button, make sure it is stable though so you don't actually fly around but instead just keep trying to fly up.

the server usually shows as offline for me, i have only seen it up a few times and when it's up, im on it. but that's only been like 4-5 times since it came out. if others cant see it for some reason as well, that might be the reason. dunno.

im in the same boat as 64m3.  The servers is grayed out in both my history and favorites tabs, but i can still join it through the friends list.

Oh, you guys need to add it to favorites again since they changed out the hardware...it's a BC2 bug...you can find it in the main list.

You also might try this.........

After logging in go to "Multiplayer" - "Server Browser" - don't refresh

Type [BPN] in search box above filters and then "search"

should bring just your server up everytime..........

Ok, made more changes based on the requests of the community.

1) Changed the BC2 server banner to a new one that 64m3 made that I think looks very nice and actually works too!

2) Changed the server message on the load screen to fit.

3) Found and setup a utility that will allow us to switch up the game modes.  Currently we are running all the maps for rush and conquest.  Each round it rotates maps and game modes.
Example:
Map 1 (Conquest)
Map 2 (Rush)
Map 3 (Conquest)
Map 4 (Rush)
etc...

Each map will only be played once so it should keep it interesting!

4) Implemented scrolling messages on the server.  They popup in the middle like admin yell but at least they are there.  It pops up once every 2 minutes and alternates between the server rules and a recruitment message.

5) Welcome message for each player, when they come in they will be greeted with a nice little message welcoming them to the BPN server.

the message is very distracting while in game is there any way to just have it come on while you are waiting to spawn?

No, it has to be a timed thing.  I would like to put it over where you see player chat but apparently there is a lack of coding from the developer to allow that to happen at this time.  Hopefully they fix that, you're right it is pretty annoying.  I need to show people the rules but I hate it popping up.  Wait a minute, I might be able to just add it to the welcome message for when they load into the game.  That would work much better!  I'll try it tonight.

I did it, looks as though it worked but I need confirmation from somebody else on that as well.

Also, since we continually have been having issues with the BC2 server crashing, lagging, jut not performing right.  I have initiated a game server provider switch.  Should probably all go down Thursday or Friday.  I switched to Hypernia and cancelled the rock trash GameServers server effective the end of the billing cycle.  Which I think is the 2nd or so.

Seems there is still almost never anyone on the server most days / nights, with the exception of the odd BPN member.  Would it be worth maybe changing the server banner to say something else other than "noobs only"?  Perhaps  "all welcome" might attract more people. 

I was browsing through the server list last night looking at what other clans have; one that caught my eye was "noobs and Veterans - all Welcome"  and they had 2 or 3 servers running and all 3 were packed and not nearly any of the people on the server were clan members.  I guess my logic here is if we think of something else, other than "noobs only" maybe we will get more people on the server.

What you guys think?

I think its something worth looking into but when i choose a server i check how many people are in it and if the server has none or close to none than i wont join it so what we should do is try to play more in our server and promote it a little, not sure exactly how we can promote it but its just my insight.

Yea, I do the same.  Thing is, I would think the "noob" tittle would be drawing attention, and maybe it does and you are right - people don't join because no one is on it usually.  Although I haven't been on much myself over the last few weeks, Fallen said on TS3 today (right before my game halted my PC) that the server was packed last night, which is awesome.

Once it gets about 6 players on it the server fills up to the brim pretty quick.
