Invisibility Cloak In the Works

Scientists have created the first device to render an object invisible in three dimensions.

The "cloak", described in the journal Science, hid an object from detection using light of wavelengths close to those that are visible to humans.

Previous devices have been able to hide objects from light traveling in only one direction; viewed from any other angle, the object would remain visible.

This is a very early but significant step towards true invisibility cloaks.

That is super cool!!  Technology is awesome!  One has to think, if it wasn't for the fiction writers coming up with all this neat stuff in their novels, the inventors would have nothing to invent.  Remember years ago when people talked about "video phones" and everyone laughed.....it's reality now.  I heard the military was already working on stuff like this....probably already in use to some extent - who knows.

ya as with a lot of groundbreaking technology, this will probably get a military application years before it becomes available or legal to the public.  But then again, there aren't many good uses besides military that come to mind.  Hide n go seek, hunting, stalking people... anyone else thing of uses?

LOL Schlup - I'm sure!  I'd just douse myself in the "cloak" and walk into a bank vault or something....then off to the cayman's on a rented lear!   Shocked

Yea!  Good example. Great movie for it's time ( the first one).
