Schlup Cranks it up a notch!

Because of my diminishing lead and the GTX 480 continually being delayed further and further I have decided to crank it up a notch.  I have disabled SLI and have gone through the painstaking process of setting up folding on each of my cards.  It should be good for a couple thousand extra PPD on my score.  Screenie below...

Well when I restarted my computer this morning the 2nd card went inactive again.  I'm going to have to fabricate a DVI dummy plug to make Windows think there is a monitor plugged in so I can fold full time on the 2nd card.

Maybe use a vga-dvi adapter and plug it into your monitor's vga input?

That's an idea!  I still think I'm going to make the dummy plug though, that is what they say to do on the folding forums.

Ok, I got the dummy plug made, it's working flawlessly and I'm putting up some big points now!

I went ahead and used the Nvidia panel to disable my SLI configuration. Since I already use 2 monitors (1 connected to each card), I should not need the DVI dummy plug. The system sees that both cards are connected to a monitor and being used.

I configured a GPU client for each card (GPU1 and GPU2). I also removed the CPU uniprocessor program and installed the SMP MPICH 64-bit version.

I also removed the CPU uniprocessor program and set up the SMP MPICH 64-bit version on my spare computer.

I should now have 3 GPU clients, 2 SMP clients, and 1 uniprocessor client working.

I also turned on the 24 classroom computers (and the PS3) for their weekend folding.

I am hopefully on the long, slow path to catching you!!

Did you configure a different machine ID for your second GPU client?  If you didn't, both GPUs will be folding the same work unit and you won't get any increases in PPD.

Yes, each has their own machineID.

The SMP client is #1, GPU1 is #2, and GPU2 is #3. The instructions on the site I posted tell exactly how to set up the folders, machineID, etc for dual GPU folding.

Everything appears to be operational and I am keeping an eye on them to ensure everything is running smoothly.

How many PPD are you getting per day and per week.  My lead is now down to 35,000!

My main computer at home is doing ~20,900 PPD (2 GPU, 1 SMP).
My older computer is doing ~11,800 (1 GPU, 1 SMP).

These are the main 2 computers.

Each GPU work unit is taking 90 min to complete and earning between 586 and 750 points each. The Nvidia GPU earns more than the ATI GPU.

Each SMP work unit is taking 15 hours and earns 2,150 points each.

So you're picking up almost 33,000 PPD?  But that doesn't count when you are running your stuff on the farm computers on the weekend...

So I'm going to need to pick up (1) GTX 485 to stay steadily ahead of you and (2) GTX 485's if you pass me and I need to catch back up.

Yes, those PPD are not including the 24 computers running the CPU folding (though these are really not making that many PPD).

The real points are in the GPU units.

I am thinking of setting up ChickenFanatic's computer (Core2Duo & 9800 GTX+) for folding also. That would allow 1 more GPU and 1 more SMP to the list (another 11,000 PPD).

Also, I am looking to build a new computer this Summer. It will more than likely include the GTX 485 Hydro since I will be making the computer water-cooled.
