I didn't touch them but I'm sure they are very hot, in my application at least. The card it's in, when folding, runs at about 98 degrees Celsius, since I manually cranked the fans up to 100% it's blowing an awful lot of hot air right over the plug.

Are your cards really getting that hot!
Both of my cards are folding and their temps are 77 and 70 right now. I use the EVGA Precision software to monitor and control their specs. I manually set the fans on each card to 65% and they are remaining nice and cool.
I would be worried if my temps were anywhere over 95.

i think the thermal shutdown for our GTX's is 105*, but i dont know about 8800's. I also use Evga precision for overclocking and fan speed, although the fans get loud temps are always <65 The newest Precision is pretty cool, you can set clock and fan speed profiles to hotkeys, so say im playing a game and notice my temps are too high, i can just press ctrl+alt+F and it loads the profile i have with the fan at 100%. Pretty handy!
Ill see if i can attach the newest version to this post.

Yes, that is the latest version (1.9.1) and I already have it installed. I love this software!
Have seen the new skin that was made for owners of the new GTX470 and GTX480? Attached is a screenshot.
Also, owners of these new cards get a new program called "EVGA OC Scanner". Attached is a screenshot. Some of the features: - Built-in stress tester to find and report artifacts - Benchmark function to quickly test your performance - GPU vitals show clock speeds and temperatures - GPU protection feature allows automatic shutoff at a set temperature - Customizable screen resolutions - Built-in log functionality - SLI support with the latest version of the EVGA SLI enhancement
Both of these working together will make monitoring and adjusting the videos effortless.

Attached is a photo of the desktop on my second monitor.
As you can see, the temps for the 2 GTX275 are 83 and 71 with full usage. The CPU monitor is in the upper right, showing 56% usage and 36% for the memory.
The outside temperature is 72 degrees (a bright sunny day with some strong winds).
The FAHMON is showing my daily PPD at around 19800 for this one computer. So far everything is progressing smoothly.

I'm using RivaTuner to OC the fan speeds to 100% full time, automatically increases the speeds upon booting into Windows. Yes, they run hot...they sit around high 60's or low 70's in idle. And yes, they do run that hot, but the room the computer is in isn't exactly the coldest room in the house, much due to the heat the computer is throwing out...

I thought I would increase my GPU fans to 100% to see what the temps would do. The temps are now at 73 and 69, even at the hottest of the day. The noise is a little high but at least the GPU are cool. I guess I will have to leave them at 100% during the folding times to ensure the safety of the cards.
