With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War / Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of SAS (the Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980's.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least,  Cheesy DEDICATED SERVERS  Cheesy will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers.

And with Treyarch finally giving up on WW2, veitnam era would be a good time period.

Activision won't say anything before the first map pack for MW2, and probably not until after the second map pack for MW2 comes out.

If they do a MW3 it won't be until CoD8 which wouldn't come out (on it's current schedule) until November of 2011.

Last i heard, Infinity Ward was working on something totally new and original.  People are suspecting some sort of CoD mmo or something along those lines.  BUT, MW2 did have a real "theres more to come" kind of ending, so i wouldn't doubt an MW3 is in the works somewhere.

So they have the wars based in the past (WWII) and a take on the one right now (Middle East), so are they gonna make you base in the future? Like in space or something. Just a question.
Dedicated Servers, YAY!!!!

I would hope that they would not do a 'Futuristic' version. The lasers/space/aliens theme has been done over and over (Halo, Doom, etc).

Maybe they could go 20-30 years in the future but not much beyond that. Keep the technology modern and realistic. That is what will captivate the player and keep drawing them in.

I say they do their research and find out what weapons will be prominent in 10 years and do a game like that.  I wouldn't mind seeing a game set about 10 years in the future maybe fighting against the Chinese in China!
