Is anyone else having issues with BC2 randomly crashing (with no apparent pattern)??   Aside from the game bugs related to beta, I really had no issues until after the first update....since then, I started having random PC hangs while playing on-line (single player seems to work with no issue). Basically the game freezes, and I hear what I could best describe as the sound an amp would make, when you plug a guitar in at loud volumes, when the cable grounds out on the guitar jack....a loud "BWAAAAAAAH" noise.  After that happens, I have to kill the power to recover.

All my temps are well within range, so I know it's not that, and all my drivers are at the latest level.  From what I can tell, it seems like a game bug.  When I check my event viewer, I see a bunch of log entries related to BC2 in my event viewer for every crash...

Done some searching on-line...no affirmative answers...saw a bunch of people saying if they force BC2 to use DX9 the problem was solved but I don't buy that....I have a decent PC and good hardware, I really don't think it is a DirectX problem.

If any if you guys have some clues, I would really appreciate it.  Thanks!

Monkey Grill suggested forcing the game to use DX9, (thank you MG!) I gave it a shot...game crashed within 5-10 min.  What is odd is there's no pattern.....sometimes I can play for 2 hours, sometimes 5-10 min, another time 30-40min.  It's odd....I think it's a code bug - where, I don't know.  If I was a betting man, I would put my money on vid drivers, or the game compatibility.   I am having no issues on any other game so far.

I was hoping the last vid drivers would correct it but obviously no dice. (pardon the pun). I don't usually rush to install new bios, firmware, drivers etc, etc until I have to, meaning that, unless the new code fixes a problem I may be having, or is a prerequisite to some other related hardware or software on my PC, it doesn't get installed....if it ain't broke, don't fix it!  Smiley

Since you mentioned the loud sound you might check your sound drivers...

Well, I was having the same issue as you, I haven't had it much lately at all.  Thought they had patched the issue, but I guess that isn't the case.  Of course I haven't played a ton lately either...

I wondered about that...I was going to ask you if you were still having issues.  I am going to play with my graphics settings but my card is above the recommended settings for BC2, so I really do not think that is the problem.

This combination of issues sounds like something in Windows doesn't like BC2 or vise versa.  Which is kinda a good thing, cause if it is in Windows somebody will figure out how to fix it pretty quick.

You're preaching to the choir here...I just about uninstalled the game a few different times.

I don't know if this will help anyone but most of the time when i get crashes and i cant figure it out i start testing my hardware a lot of times the problem is something really stupid and unexpected for example when i played wow the game crashed every 5 min and it would make a loud noise and crash so badly so i searched and searched and tried almost everything but my mistake was that i thought it was the graphics card so i sent it back waited 2 weeks without playing anything and it came back and it was still happening at that point i was like let me trying something and i took off the sound card and what do you know, that was causing the crashes, i also had a problem recently with my graphics card not working on my other comp and it was a network card that was causing it.

Good point, you might try changing the codec of the sound driver.  Like make the quality lower.  I know I had that issue with CoD5 one time, until they rolled out a patch for it.  I'm sure the fix is out there, you just have to search hard for it.

Well, I noticed my sound was set to cinema mode, rather than hi-fi.  Changed it back to Hifi and played over an hour without her crashing.....maybe thats what it is but I am thinking it is just a coincidence.

Any luck finding anything with a google search?

Yeap!  Got about a gazillion hits on it but no fixes, or at least nothing that looked concrete enough to try.  Most of the responses are guesses.  Seems there are lots of people having the problem and again with no pattern; no similarity between hardware etc at all.  I'm still going with the idea that this is a code bug.

As a last resort I am going to re-install the game but I seriously doubt that will buy me anything at all.  Do I have to save my on-line stats or are they stores at EA?  I am assuming they are stored on-line.

Very frustrating I must say and since there is no pattern it just makes me not want to play the game at all one time I get 2 minutes play time, another an hour, sometimes it hangs when I join a server.  I really have to say, once again, I am not very impressed with EA.  As I mentioned before, this is not the first game I have bought a game from EA that was plagued full of bugs.  I think back to NHL 08 for PS3 that crashed on 2 seperate occasions and took my blueray player on my PS3 with it.

Anyhow, I'll try the re-install, then I take a sledge to this anchor!  lol

Well, the last game update did not resolve my problem which is very disappointing.  Now I am wondering if maybe it is a sound problem so I was eventually going to get a new sound card and ditch the on-board sound (never liked O/b anyhow) but now I have a reason to buy one.  Cheesy  (I luv buying new toys!)

Just curious if anyone has any suggestions.  Can't go wrong with Creative brand as I've had them in the past and never had an issue.  I'm looking for 7.1 and it has to have at least one optical port, 2 preferably.  Thanks guys!

I have the GTX285 and as far as I know it supports Dx11, which is what I have installed.  I tried forcing the game to use dx9 and it still crashed.  My hardware is pretty good so I don't think it's that but then again, this is the first time I have never been able to solve a pc issue before......kind of buggin me actually so I'm game for trying anything.  Hopefully today I will have time to get out and pick up a new sound card so I can get away from the o/b sound.

Thanks Schlup...good to know.  That's one of the cards I was considering actually.  I checked some asus cards, holy cow, they are expensive compared to a creative labs!  Eeeech

All I can say is........."OH YEAAAAAAAAH!  YIPPE-AYE-AYE-EH!!"  I FINALLY fixed my hard crash problem.  Turns out it was the O/B sound as I thought.  Popped in a PCI soundblaster I had kickin around in the onslaught of old equipment I have piled up down in my "man-cave", as my Fiancé calls it.   Grin  Grin  Grin  It worked! Was able to play for several hours last night without any hiccups.  I'm so happy I could just jump for Joy (but I don't see her around anywhere)   lol
