I think i got my stats hacked!

I was playing last night with the clan but then it said i was diconnected from steam so i just decied turn my PC off and deal with it tommorow.
But here it is 2:00 in texas and i was trying to get MW2 to start up. (which i eventually did after restarting steam 5 times ) But when it did start up i went into the barracks to see what challenges i was close to completing as usual and then when i went into my perks section of the challenges i saw that the yellow progress bar on some of the perks were way off the screen, as in stretching across the entire screen.
I notices that i had never used the Last Stand perk and yet it said 1337/3, as well as many other perks. So please tell me what you think has happened. I hope they wont ban me for somthing i didnt do.

Well you can always change your password and reset the stats.  Got_Amm0 knows how to do the reset.

If you were already prestige 10 level 45 then don't worry about resetting it.  You were close enough that we're not going to make you reset your entire game because you got your account hacked or whatever.

And EXACTLY what im talking about. I had an older account that i used to play on and VAC banned me because i wallhacked (i assure you THAT wont happen again). I was already 9th prestige 30--40 (i forgot the exact rank) and all i did was transfer the old playerstats file to the newly bought MW2. (i have never hacked my rank.)

LMAO, well i didnt get to have a cool gift like wake up and have a cool stat change but.... i did play in a hacked mw2 server last night and moved up a little so im happy... im  Prestige7 now

It could have been that hacked game on the Rust map that we all played in last night. I have not checked my account yet, but I will when I get home.

These incidents are not isolated or uncommon. The Steam Forums are full of these types of inadvertent rank ups. People are playing and suddenly they are in a hacked game. It is up to the host that has the console open to determine what attributes will be affected and how. Some people are reporting stats moving both ways. You kill one person and you get 500 million XP or lose 500 million XP. There are all types of variations. Normally, just going to the next prestige level will reset the XP back to 0. If you are -500 million XP then the only recourse is to reset your rank.

If you were advanced to Prestige 10 Level 70 then there is not much that can be done except to reset the stats. There are some mod tools that would allow you to manually 'adjust' the stats. If you remember most of your stats then you could return back to where you were previously.

It seems that it would be prudent to back up the stats file (I think Monkey Grill made a vid about how to do this) every few days. Then if something get 'altered' in an unfair manner, you would be able to reload the saved stats and only lose a few days. Some people actually back up the stats file each day before they play. If something goes wrong during play, not much is lost.

I think I will be making more frequent backups of my stats file in the future.

The video that Monkey made was about how to backup your single player and spec ops stats.  The multiplayer stats are saved in the cloud and I have no idea how to back those up.

no way to back does up after talking with steam today they stated the game stat on the mp are on there servers

My understanding is that the local stats file is sync'd with the cloud file. If there is no local file then the cloud file is downloaded.

After playing a game, the updated stats file is uploaded to the cloud and it becomes the new version.

Here is how it works:
- When MW2 is started the cloud stats file is downloaded and written over the local stats file
- The user plays the game as normal and the local stats file is updated with the new XP/kills/deaths/etc
- When MW2 is closed the local stats file is uploaded to the cloud and becomes the new master file

If the stats file is modified before MW2 is started, all the changes are useless since Steam will download the cloud version over the local version. The changes can only occur while the game is online.

Many people are saying that if you are in a game and you see some hacking taking place (i.e. excessive XP, etc) then you should Ctrl-Alt-Del to exit the game so that the stats are not saved when the game ends.

Man, I hate hackers....If I planned my gaming on the fact that every time I saw someone hacking on MW2 I would exit the game, I'd never be playing...

Yea, I agree.

I would not worry too much about the aimbot or ESP (wallhacks) cheats. These only affect the hacker's computer.

Caution is needed on the games played on the hacked servers. These are the ones where a console is used to change everything from map played to XP gained/lost per kill.

I just checked and my stats are all fine (5th prestige level 51).

I copied my 'players' folder so that I have a backup of the stats file before this weekend.

How come everytime I end up on a hacked server it doesn't put me to level 70, it just puts me up to level 1 of the next Prestige?

There just taking the "Should I prestige?" question out of your hands and automatically advancing you.

This is strange because normally they will only boost your XP to the 70 level area and not prestige you. I guess you just got on the wrong hacked server.

Last night everyone in our group got large amounts of XP and were at the 70 level. We decided to prestige and start again.

You have to Ctrl+Alt+Del out of the game and close it immediately to keep from getting that to happen.
