So, I got my cables today. 3 SATA and 1 4-pin to SATA adapter. I spend about an hour rearranging the PCI-E and PCI cards to accommodate the SATA cable, not a big deal. Time wasted. I needed two 4-pin molex ends and had zero left, a butterfly wouldn't work. My cluster of four SATA connectors on the mobo are set up so the top two are upside down when I try to attach a 90 degree cable to it. Bummer. Now I have a hard drive with no power and no mobo connection, or I have a hard drive with no power, but connected and no CD/DVD ROM. Grrrrr! I will figure a way around this.

I guess I am confused, did you not have ANY cables before you bought the new ones? I'm guessing you have 2 HDD and 2 CD/DVD drives?

I have 2 HDD, one installed, the other removed. One CD/DVD. My PSU only has 2 SATA power connectors with one broken. I had all the cables needed, but I wanted to add the second HDD and with the way everything is set up, I needed 90 degree SATA cables. Those came in today, put two to use for the HDD and CD/DVD. I need to buy SATA power extender and a much linger SATA 90 degree cable to wrap around the GFX card so it can reach the second HDD. In my title I said a couple notes and I forgot the second note, so here it is. I plan on doing a HDD mod. I am going to practice on one that is shorted out so I can make sure everything will fit properly before I work on a HDD that works. I want to take the top metal plate off and replace it with acrylic. Inside the HDD I plan on wrapping some EL wire and give it bling. Once the wire and acrylic fit perfectly, Ill add it to my PCI rack and show it off. I think it would be a very interesting mod if done right and one that people have never thought of.

I don't want to be a neysayer but the reason why people don't do that mod is that once the case is opened on an HDD dust can get inside on the plates, once that happens it will corrupt data and ruin the drive. Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong on this but it seems like I've heard that somewhere before.

I believe Schlup is right. Once you open the HDD you void warranty and destroy the HDD.

I know that I will void the warranty. I just looked it up and it is possible, but in a clean room where no dust is present. Now to find where I can find a clean room to use or request that a plate be replaced and maybe caulk up the edge of teh acrylic plate as to not expose any air into the HDD. All this will be on a new drive so no data will be lost.

It's pretty risky and potentially loss of a lump of money. Too risky for me but keep me posted on how it goes, and make sure to take pictures.
