Google has officially released its latest beta of their Chrome Browser; Chrome 5. As usual the emphasis for Google is speed and security and they seem to have left no stone unturned in their latest release. Here’s what Google had to say:
Today’s new beta release incorporates one of Chrome’s most significant speed and performance increases to date, with 30% and 35% improvement on the V8 and SunSpider benchmarks over the previous beta channel release. In fact, looking back in time, Chrome’s performance has improved by as much as 213% and 305% on these two benchmarks since our very first beta.
Most notably though, inspite of all the rumours surrounding the perceived decline of Flash; Google chose to integrate Adobe Flash into Chrome 5. This is the first time a major browser has come with flash hard coded into it. It is indeed a surprise considering that Google recently stated its intent (along with Apple and Microsoft) of moving away from Flash to HTML 5.
Never the less I took a shot at using Chrome 5 on my windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 netbook and I really can confirm the “awesomeness” of this new browser release. Even though it’s still in beta testing it seems to be lightning fast (on the same Internet connection I had previously) and yet again the retention of the simple and clean layout of Chrome was still a thing to smile about. Checkout the performance graphs below:
