I recently paid a visit to my local pc hardware hook up.

I originally came in there for Cooling Fluid and a little 1 Foot sign sat on the counter as you walked in.. Ninja'd my eye-sight directly too it..

120GB VERTEX SERIES SATA II 2.5" SOLD STATE DRIVE on sale for $400 CDN..

So the trip that should have costed me like $12 ended up costing me $400..

This is why it doesn't pay to have a PC Hardware addiction my friends.

They know.. They all know..

So what recently have you decided not to buy and ended up buying anyways ?

My PC case last month. I was going to put it off to this month but I bought it and then my power supply died so I bought that and oh yea I got my new keyboard this month that I was going to put off but the space bar on the old one was broken and driving me up the wall. I just added things up and I have $1579.25 into my computer and I still want to add another video card, a Blueray player,a set of speakers and a webcam.

For these exact reasons I work for Best Buy. If the store itself doesn't give me a discount the manufacturers normally will. I can get the Intel 80gb SSD for $140....Gfx cards I believe are around a 15-30% discount and tomorrow Intel is launching a "Big Deal" for retail employees. It's supposed to be a i7-980x EE and mobo for around $350. I'll let you know when I see it.

I honestly don't make rash purchases like that anymore for anything over $50...I've been worked too many times in the past not to do just a little bit of homework and be patient.  Example:  Commander recently bought a new mouse it was the Microsoft G something and he paid $80 for it.  When I looked it up I instantly found the mouse available on amazon.com for $27.  It really pays to have some patience and do your homework before you buy products...you'll end up with a lot more for less money in the long run, and what's a couple days shipping...be patient people!

P.S. Samarium I know you don't want to hear this but your drive costs $280...that's a $120 you could have saved if you would have been patient and did your homework.

P.P.S. I got this cool little plugin extension for Google Chrome that when I look at any product on the internet it automatically searches the entire internet for a cheaper price or lets me know that I'm looking at the cheapest price.  It can be found here... https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/lghjfnfolmcikomdjmoiemllfnlmmoko

It costs an additional $69.99 for the NewEgg 2 year warranty which mine includes along with shipping and currency exchange I would have to say it would round up to about the same or a tad less. 3/3 year Warranty for Manufacturer warranty but under many situations it can easily be void and would've taken forever to get it internationally.

IIIi dunno *Shrugs*

Well that's great if you researched all that before you bought it.  Personally I would just use the 3 year manufacturers warranty and I never buy the Newegg warranty, just a waste of money if you ask me.  I was just trying to point out that research is important to saving money if you do buy something you told yourself you wouldn't.

I did buy an ATV after I told myself I wouldn't and spent several thousands of dollars on it but I did my homework before purchasing and was able to get thousands of dollars off of it when buying by knowing how much the dealerships were paying for it and then pitting the dealerships against each other to gain my business.  In the end I am absolutely positive that I could not have gotten a better deal on the ATV anywhere in America.

I feel like Schlup is behind this:

The way the guy in the blog does his grocery shopping and the way you do ALL of your shopping seems pretty identical...

Food does not get researched since each item falls below my $50 rule.

So I just got an email with "The Big Deal" for the retail employees from Intel.

I have 4 different packages to choose from.

1)  Intel® Core™ i7 940 Desktop Processor
Intel® Desktop Board DX58SO-Extreme Series
Assassin's Creed II*

$299 USD

2)Intel® Core™ i7 940 Desktop Processor
Assassin's Creed II*

$149

3)Intel® X25-M 80GB SATA Solid-State Drive
$129 USD
OR
Intel® X25-M 160GB SATA Solid-State Drive
$229 USD

4)Dell Studio 15 with i5 processor and Microsoft Office 2010

$549 USD

What do you think Schlup? If I get a processor bundle I'll need a new MoBo but the included one isn't the best.

Well even though the i7 940 is discontinued now it's still a pretty good price.  The board isn't too bad as far as specs but there have been some BIOS issues with it.  If it were me I'd just get the processor and choose a different motherboard which I'm sure you can find a pretty nice one with the $150 you have to spend on it to match the processor bundle package.
