So today it was really hot in Missouri, like over 100 degrees not counting the heat index, which made me wonder, what is the hottest temp ever recorded for MO (118 degrees back in 1954), so then I think, what was the hottest temp ever recorded in the world?  World (Africa) - El Azizia, Libya   Sept. 13, 1922 - 136 degrees (man, that is so hot.  What would happen at the temp?  Would people even be able to stand it?  Would things just catch on fire randomly?

So then I thought, what's the coldest temperature ever recorded in the world?  World (Antarctica) - Vostok - July 21, 1983   –129 degrees
Wow, that is rediculously cold!  I mean like -29 is super cold, like too cold for people, but then take it down another 100 degrees to -129 degrees!  Wow, I wonder what exactly would happen at that temperature...I've never even heard of anything that cold.  Anybody know what kinda thing happens at that extreme temp?

Well, I live in central Canada we have experience '-40 C' weather quite a few times with wind chill.

I have had days when I have waited for the bus and my eye lashes have snowballs on them, We are fortunately having a very warm summer 30 C with a Light bit of Rain in the last few months for us this is luxury.

So you're saying that no matter what you were wearing you would get Hypothermia in a matter of a few minutes if not faster and you would die soon after.  So at that temp it would almost be instant death.

instant is a relative term. In reference to a normal freezing or heat death; yes, it's instant. In relation to a decapitation or bullet into the brain, it's slow and painful.

A headshot isn't a instant kill? O_o

Or to expand...

People can live for like 12 secs after decapitation, but a headshot is instant kill. So, you can't really compare the two. (I'm just saying... Even though I haven't experience either, Schlup would say I have.)

Headshot is also a relative term then. Someone getting shot in the ear would say they got shot in the head but they would live. We saw pics in a class the someone tried to kill themselves with a shotgun under the chin. He messed up and took off his jaw and lived. But there is what's called the golden triange on someone's face that if hit will instantaneously sever the spine from the brain and that's instant lights out. They will fall to the ground like a sack of potatoes.

Boom HEADSHOT!  I'd say a Barrett .50cal pretty much anywhere on the head is an instant kill...so long as it isn't a flesh wound.

There is a place that cops are taught to shoot but I don't recall the name. It is the "? line" that is an instant kill and the body is unable to react when shot there. It is most often used in hostage situations. I wonder how many government red flags we have raised in this conversation? lol

That's the spot I'm talking about. In tac and in my DM, designated marksmen or sniper school, we were taught to aim for te point whenever possible because it shuts down the body without any reaction

Sir, Sniper already said it: "But there is what's called the golden triange on someone's face that if hit will instantaneously sever the spine from the brain and that's instant lights out. They will fall to the ground like a sack of potatoes."

No that is not the term I am looking for. I think it was mentioned in the movie S.W.A.T. and will have to dig it out and see if I can hear it there.

hmm the old shot in the face conversation...

there was a story i heard from my father who heard from his father who heard from a guy he worked with (at the time they where cops) that reported to a crime scene and apparently a wife had attempted murder on her husband from what i heard this guy had 6 shots in between is skin and skull she used a 25 auto which my father called "the worlds bigest piece of s*** you would be better off dropping it so you could run faster" the husband survived and is fine to this day

Alamode, there have been several confirmed reports of things like that happening. The smaller caliber rounds have a great chance or glancing off the roundness of the skull and not breaking it.  It's why they stopped shooting cattle in the head as well.  Too many ricochets coming back and hitting the shooter.

from what i was told a 25 auto is to heavy for the amount of power it is given and there for cant pentrate hard objects like a 22 can which is close to the same size but has more power

I saw a guy on TV once giving an interview that was missing the entire left upper half of his head above the eyes. It was weird looking.
