Several states and federal laws are looking at ways to regulate the content in video games and how they can be distributed. To me, this seems unconstitutional since no other form of artwork will be regulated like this. Go to the site above to register and get some more information if you would like to help out.

Also Schlup, if I don't piss too many people off with this, we can put up a banner or two for them for any passers by.

There are an awful lot of faulty parents out there that allow their kids play rather than hear them whine.

Technically most retailers are required to ask for proof of age for M rated games but there is no legal system in place to enforce this. Only the power of consumers knowing which places do this and not shopping there. The legislature that is going to the federal court system by California is going to mandate and make unlawful for retailers to sell these games without requiring proof of age then fine the retailers up to $1000 for everytime they violate it; and also to restrict games like Postal and others from even being approved for production or sale. The first part isn't the bad and dangerous; it's that they want to be able to tell game companies that "you're game is too violent and we won't allow you make it." Thus restricting the freedoms we have as Americans in our 1st amendment right. Everyone also fears that if this is put into act that it will be easily migrated and misused for other art forms as well (movies, books, etc).

If I want to pay $50 to kill other people (FPS), drop nukes on Washington (Civ), or crash planes (FS), I will.
If they decide that I cannot do any of that, then what is the point of gaming?

Blame the liberals who think they have to tell us what is good for us because we are not smart enough to figure it out for ourselves. Going through this in another way in NY, they won't let MMA in because it is "Barbaric" and it is "Better if we do not see these things" What a bunch of crap.

That's exactly my point. It's that kind of mindset and people trying to regulate our experiences that violates our rights and why we should stand up against it.

Personally, I think the first part will pass, and the second part will not pass.  That's how bills work.  Anyways, I'm apprehensive about putting a banner up on the homepage as I don't know a whole lot about this website yet.  I will continue to monitor...

Thanks for the thought and effort Schlup. Although, I don't think any of it will pass as lower courts have already kicked this out 12 times. California is just trying to for a last ditch effort with the federal court.

    Nazi's`s are fun,
have you ever heard them reasoning with others?
i always wet myself when i have 1 starting a conversation with me,
and trust me, we have allot of them here in Holland.
i think they have to be the funniest people alive,
with the way they think, and their futile attempts to convince others to join their cause.
on the other hand, the fact that people with those idea`s exist is kinda freaky.

California's number 2 industry: pollution. they should worry about the emissions they pollute the rest of us with rather than the games we prefer. If they take violence out of video games, people will be forced to relieve their tension, stress, and frustration personally. So which do you prefer, me playing postal, or going postal?

Thats what i hope and expect will happen also.  I really dont think a 12 year old should be able to buy GTAIV without parental consent, but i DO think the feds should keep there hands out of our entertainment and it's content

My take one the censor rating: If a game is rated m for mature, it is given an age requirement. If the parent buys the game for their child, it is the parents responsibility to screen the game. They have no right to complain about game content when they had to buy the game for their child to begin with. Furthermore, the age requirement means that the government has no right to govern the content, as the rating implies adult content.

Look this is the way I see it, The government got into the cigarette industry and nobody stooped them. Then the government got into the firearm industry and the NRA has done what they can to stop them but they (Then government)are still in it. Obama and company have gotten into both the airline business and car manufacturing and nobody said a thing. To now think that the government won't get into this just isn't reality. I don't want them in but because people let them into all the above mentioned we gave the to power to get into whatever they want. Let's just hope people will stand up and say something for a change.

The Supreme court will find the case ( Schwarzenegger v. ESA ) unconstitutional and this will all be behind us eventually.  We'll still have jack thompson to deal with though >.<
