Please wear your Seat belt.
After coming home from dinner, and about to walk into our house, we hear this loud noise coming from the street. It sounded like a truck with a trailer attached to it with lawn mowers on it going over a rough road but louder, almost like 3 snowplow trucks clearing the snowy streets. I turn and see this truck bouncing up and down with amber sparks shooting everywhere. I think to myself, "What is that guy doing???" He hits our mail boxing shooting shrapnel everywhere, the truck goes into the the ditch, bounces out, hits are next door neighbor's mail box, and continues down the street. The loud noises eventually stop and I hear the car horn blaring. I first think the driver is past out with his head on the steering wheel. I grab my phone, dial 911, and bolt over to the truck. I saw no one in the driver's seat and I think, "He's OK, he got out." As I get closer I see that he's in the back seat bleeding. He looked bad. Police, Fire and Rescue were there minutes later. They got him out of the mangled truck, and loaded him into the ambulance. I don't know the mans current state. Hopefully he will be ok.
My dad and I later watch the tow trucks pull the truck onto a flatbed. The truck was totaled. The sides looked like in went through a trash compactor and the front end looked like it hit a metal telephone poll going 50mph. You could still smell the chaos. Pine, sulfur, and smoke.

I actually wear both helmets and seatbelts. Always have, always will. I wear a full face helmet when I'm on a bike, but a lot of my friends (like Covelle) don't. My visibility is just slightly limited when trying to look behind me but otherwise I can find no reason at all not to wear one. I just make sure to go super fast so that looking behind me is not really necessary since nobody is coming up on me anyhow!

I intend to wear a full face helmet when I get my motorcycle. As for the seatbelt, I only wear mine when it is raining. I live my life according to a simple philosphy. If the seatbelt was the only thing that saved my life, I probably don't want to live through the crash. To no surpsise, i'm on the DNR list.

Automobile, seatbelt always. Dirt bike, full face helmet always. Street bike, helmet sucks. Can't see, Can't hear, Can't smell, Can't yell to riding partner, Hot, Noisy, Heavy, Passenger/ head clunker. Shall I continue?

I remember to seatbelt 95% of the time for my car I use a full face helmet and gloves 100% of the time for the bike Armored jacket and Race boots depending on whether I'm just commuting or riding "spirited" I had a pretty gnarly wreck last year with my motorcycle (there was a flipping bike and a tumbling me involved), and if i hadn't been wearing my boots, my motorcycle landing on my ankle would have rendered my leg useless for months, at least. But instead, i walked away with just a few scratches! Ever since then ive taken safety equipment more seriously! I feel naked without a seatbelt.
I feel naked without pants on Street bike, helmet sucks. Can't see, Can't hear, Can't smell, Can't yell to riding partner, Hot, Noisy, Heavy, Passenger/ head clunker. Shall I continue?
Problem solved! Seatbelts anyone?

I never cared for that style of helmet, not much protection there.

Me either. If you wrecked and landed face first, the pavement would act like a cheese grater to your face.

Sure would, I have seen it first hand. I don't care to see it again.

I don't have a solution for most of the issues you have with the helmet on a street bike, but for the talking to riding partner part, I installed this on two of mine: http://www.spoiledbiker.com/stcmadvnca.html"Hot, heavy, noisy"...are you talking about the helmet or the Harley?

All in all, i would just say suck it up and get a full face helmet. Heres a diagram of impact percentages on helmets from various crashes: Seatbelts anyone?

That only accounts for 99.4% by the way. Where does the other .6% go?
