Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone uses Linux or have Linux, because i have a second somputer that i want to try using Linux and have a feel of what it is like. I want to use it for like checking emails watching videos , browse the web, such things like that. So if anyone does have Linux or have a good knowledge of Linux let me know cause i want to put it on my other computer.

I also want to know where i can get Linux and if it is easy to install. Also do i need to add any hardware to my computer for anything in order for Linux to work?
I want to do this is because i just want to free up the computer that i am using right now and to keep it running smooth. I know theres other ways to do that but i chose Linux, so yeah if anyone have any tips, info, instructions that would be great.
Thanks for the help Cheesy

ubuntu is generally considered the easiest for linux beginners. You shouldn't have to add any hardware but depending on your machine, not everything will work right until you get some drivers manually installed/hacked into place. Your best bet is to download the ISO and burn it to a disc and try it as a "live boot" where it doesn't install it but lets you try it out.

ubuntu is linux. There is no one "linux." There are several different distributions of it. Which is the whole point of opensource coding.

Unless he means he wants RedHat Linux which costs money, is for enterprise use and you need to be good with Linux console commands to use.  We use CentOS on our servers because it is super stable and maintained and updated very well.  Once again though, probably something you don't need nor want to use for what you want it for.  You need to get Ubuntu for what you want Steve.

P.S. All of the above mentioned operating systems are Linux.

UNIX is the base operating structure that linux and mac OS use. Windows was originally considered an UNIX derivative but since has changed their kernel structuring and data management to a system that doesn't resemble it anymore.
