Ok, so I bought a new enclosure for the HDD from my old computer because I wanted all of the movies and music off of it, but the new comp runs a different OS. This is it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173042. It runs as quiet as it gets imo. and it is completely plug and play. Hooked up the power and USB2 cables and was able to just turn it on and open files. I am playing movies off of it as I type, so the speed is good too. Highly recommend this one for anyone who need an external enclosure.

An enclosure's performance is based off of a couple of things. The connection type, sound dampening, and how good the drive is you're putting in it. Traditionally any USB 2.0 enclosure will work exactly the same as any other assuming the drive inside is the same. A few people may want to use an eSATA connection for it's performance increases but until USB 3.0 becomes readily available, price is about the only thing that should determine which one to buy.  That said, newegg is saying that product is deactivated so I don't know how much you paid for it but if it was less then $50 you got a decent deal.

paid $35, and it does come with the eSATA, USB2, and USB3 cables. I am using the USB2 atm due to my mobo. but the USB3 and eSATA connections are on the back, and look usable. And I can't hear it over my case fan, which i can't hear at all when i have my headset on.

I prefer the gigabit Ethernet connections personally...much more scalable IMO.

I got 2 recently for a broken external hard drive, well the hard drive wasn't broken it was the cable input that was messed up.

dont know why it said it was deactivated, this should be a good link. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817173042&cm_re=17-173-_-17-173-042-_-Product Though it appears I was wrong about the USB3 output, I have the input on my mobo, but the enclosure does not support USB3. But it still came with the eSATA and USB2 cables for your preference.

Your enclosure is the same as mine, except I have the silver sides.  Running 1TB with USB 3.0.  No issues yet.
