We all had our beginning.  The first computer we built that begun the never-ending hobby of adding faster processors, more RAM, cooler GPU's, and the lights to make it right.

    What was your first build?

    Mine:
Core 2 Duo @ 2.20 GHz with stock cooler --- [CPU stored away, cooler stored away]
Intel D975XBX2 mobo --- [board was scratched, inoperable]
450W PSU (came with case, died in a couple months.) --- [garbage]
    400GB IDE Hitatchi HDD --- [burned out...literally]
Monitor: eMachine 15" LCD --- [stored away]
ATI 1650pro GPU --- [stored away]
    640MB RAM (Somehow a 512 and 128 went together) --- [garbage]
On board audio --- [still use on-board, better chip set]
Xion Onyx green LED Case --- [became a bookcase, then trash]
Stock Keyboard, mouse, CD player --- [garbage, garbage, garbage]
    Mouse pad: Wal-Mart $1 special --- [garbage]

This would have been at least 5 years ago, not sure of an exact date.  I had a second hand IBM that i used to play games before this, but it barely played Call of Duty 2 and couldn't even start up FarCry so i decided to build a new computer from scratch.

I had been saving up for months and finally dropped $750-800 at newegg, the most money i had ever spent at one time  Shocked

CPU: AMD Athlon 3500+ socket 939 single core, 2.2ghz
    MOBO: Asus A8N Sli Deluxe
    GPU:  EVGA nvidia 7600gs 256mb
    RAM: 1gig Crucial Ballistix ddr400
    SOUND: Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2
PSU: 500W that came with case
    HDD: Toshiba 160gb ide 7200rpm
CASE: Apevia X-Plorer with stock fans
    SPEAKERS: Creative 72watt 5.1 system
    MOUSE: Logitech G5
    KEYBOARD: Logitech G15
    MONITOR: Sony 19" crt flatscreen

The computer still works, for the most part.  I have to use it whenever something breaks on my main rig.  Processor has been upgraded (Opteron 165 dual core, 2.7ghz) as well as the GPU (evga 8800gts 320mb) and ram (OCZ platinum 2gig).

my first machine was a mutation. It started out nice and stock as a hand me down then I replaced the parts, one by one.  By the end, if I remember correctly it had a:

AMD Athlon 1500+ that I overclocked to almost twice it stock speeds
    1gb of ram
    Nvidia GeForce 6500

To keep the cpu cool I had to take the side panel off and I set a 14" box fan next to it. The thing ran like a beast.

    My first build

486 DX2, 4mb RAM, 70mb Hard Drive, Sound Blaster 16 Sound Card, 4mb PCI Creative Graphics Card, AST 125W Power Supply, 14.4 Data/Fax/Voice Modem, 14" Packard Bell Monitor, 2x CDRom, MS-DOS 6.22.  Soon to upgrade to Windows 3.1 with the 7 3.5" Floppy Disks.
I put this thing together and took it apart at least 100 times.  Even though it was running right, I still had to take it apart just to see if I could find something wrong with it.
I even had a 386 before this one, but I didn't build it. And..........even a commodore 64 Radio Shack special.
There wasn't even an internet yet.....just Bulletin Boards, DOS based...
The 4mb RAM was about $600.........biggest price that I remember....2x CDRom was $200 or more back then

    Those were the days...

Ooops forgot, this was around 1992-1993 I think

It was a 4046 I think, (or whatever the predecessor of the 286 was called) it was for doing Packet and RTTY radio

I cant remember because i started building computers for friends that asked me if i knew how to do it and than they would throw me some money for it and i was pretty young so i didnt have a job but my 1st build for me was...

AMD Dual Core 2.8ghz 6000+ i am not sure to be honest i got bad memory
    Nvidia 5200 FX
    2 gigs of ram
    450 PSU
The case was an old case that someone gave me.

To be honest all the stuff was pretty terrible i had to get new stuff like 6 months later.

Mine started out as a stock Acer Aspire E380.
AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core 2.6 cpu (stored)
    2 Gig (2x 1 gig) DDR2 866mhz RAM (stored)
400 gb @ 7500 RPM Seagate Baracuda HDD (in an external enclosure for movie/music storage)
300w PSU (replaced out of box with 550w OCZ Fata1ity, in current rig now)
EVGA GeForce 7900 256 mb DDR2 (stored) (later replaced with Zotac Geforce 9800 GT 512 mb DDR3, in current rig now)
Dual 17" KDS LCD monitors (current rig)
Stock Optical DVD writer (current rig)
    Onboard audio
    Stock keyboard
    Razer Diamondback optical mouse
After i paid $900 for the stock Acer Aspire, I spent another $1000 on the upgrades, and installed them the day i brought it home. That was over 5 years ago. Now my system is twice as good at half the price. Amazing how time reduces the worth of electronics.

Not first computer, first BUILD, i.e. one you put together yourself.  Unless you put together a commodore 32, in which case I bow down to you.
