Ok, so I'm looking for a new keyboard, not that anything is wrong with my old one. But I want a lit k/b to match my mouse. I refuse to use any color other than red, so keep that in mind. I have looked at a couple on our sponsors (XOxide) website. This is what I came up with, I like this one- http://www.xoxide.com/saitek-ii-eclipse-illuminated-keyboard.html- plus it's not too expensive. But I also looked at this one- http://www.xoxide.com/saitek-cyborg-gamingkeyboard.html -I do like it, but I KNOW I won't need all the functions, so why spend the extra money? My questions are: 1) does anyone know of a better (red backlit) keyboard as cheap or cheaper than $70? 2) Does our discount still apply with xoxide, and how much is it, and how do I redeem it?

Well I don't know about either of those keyboards, I know Saitek is a halfway decent brand.  I don't know of any other red backlit keyboards...had actually never seen one before.  Xoxide never ended up giving us a discount that I am aware of and if they did it has since been expired for a long time...so no discounts from Xoxide unfortunately.

Ok, so I think I am going to go with this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823175005 - which is the same as the second link from the first post. The only difference is the place and price. The first post was from xoxide, and was $75 plus shipping, this one is from newegg, at $65 free shipping.

Sweet, make sure you click on the NewEgg link at the bottom left side of the homepage before you purchase.

Snake, something also to check out is a "Deck Keyboard" from www.deckkeyboards.com. They are some really good keyboards. That or, I use the Logitech G15 and absolutely love it. Great for games, great for Photoshop, great for programming!

Actually I did check them out last night. The only downside that I found was the price, $100 for a 82 board, and $150 for a 104 board. To me that's just too much. But the best reviews that I found did come from Deck, second best was Saitek. So Saitek it is Smiley

Did you see this review?
Cons: The problem I have with this keyboard is that the moment you install the included drivers, the keyboard will fail. This is known on the Saitek forums. I tried fixing it based on their advice and it did not work. Currently RMAing.

Sounds like something to be concerned about and that seems to be a recurring theme.

There's always driver roll backs.  I have had my Razer Taratula keyboard for close to a year now and I just now setup my drivers so I could use all the functions it has.

I have a Razor back lit  kyeoard that is almost like the Deck.  Even has a media touch pad in the upper-right corner.
Plus, it ha a USB port and audio out jacks.  The USB port is basically an extention cord, meaning if you use the keyboard port you have to plug it in the USB port on your mobo.

Just a question while we are on the subject. What are the advantages of a gaming keyboard? Are the keys faster to respond, are the keys positioned differently, what makes them worth the price other than macro keys and good looks?

Most keyboards have macro keys or software to set up macros to help in game.  Also, the WASD keys may stand out more making them easily accessable.  I know the G15 has a built in LCD screen to record your stats and server stats for the current round.

yeh, I looked at the Razers, but none of them were red backlighting. Im looking for red specifically to match my red led mouse. Sir, most of the "gaming" keyboards have memory features to save different keybinds for multiple games. So you can have keybinds set up for a few games at once w/o having to go in and change them for each game, you just hit "preset1". Also the USB option does speed the reaction time up, but most new boards now are USB. The multitude of options and functions is what makes them "expensive", but it being worth the price depends on the individuals view of it. I don't think that a board is worth $150, but I will pay $50-$75 for it if it does what I want/need it to.

You know with a little modifying you can change the color in the keyboard. Mine I got for 50 the razor one. but yea ya can change it if you want it lit or not or just wasd. but I think if you want to crack it open you might see that it is modifable. OH SNAPS NEW WORD

lol, true, but then I have to pay $50 for the board, $15 for the new light, then void the warranty by opening the casing and tampering with the electronics to switch the color. Think I'll just spend $60 for the red Saitek... Smiley
