I just wanted to start a new thread on what other members think the best "Realistic Military Game' is. I understand many games can be classified in this genre but I'm really just trying to get an Idea.   Well find some good games then.   Cheesy

Without a doubt it would be the Call of Duty series more specifically Modern Warfare and World at War.

America's Army is the most realistic, there are somethings in CoD that isn't quite the same...

EDIT :: Plus you only say that because your a CoD whore.

AA realistic?  Please, looks like you are playing Atari...there is nothing realistic about it.  I say CoD is realistic because it has the best graphics and is close to being realistic as far as guns and terrain is concerned.

P.S. Is anybody going to be interested in AA3...we have an opportunity to become an official hosting provider for the game and the beta coming out soon.

Graphics? Is that how you define realism? Realism is not graphics, realism is how close the game play is to the real thing, not how pretty it looks...

I would be interested in it, although I don't have the internet for it right now.

Well doing some research on my own thread, I totally forgot about the Socom Navy Seals series. I understand now they are somewhat out of date and the most recent being on psp but Ps3 version is having some issues.  Operation Flashpoint 2 is currently claiming that they are developing the next best Military Simulator openly avaliable as a game.

As for now.... I have to agree with Schlup on the fact that COD4 exhibits the realism of bullet and terrain effects beutifully but the damage in my opinion is just slightly off...

Anyway Check out and Keep an eye on OF2 it looks very promising  Cheesy

in terms of realism??? i have to say that CoD actually SUCKS, i mean come on, pumping some1 full with lead and he doesnt die, but he takes 1 potshot at me, and i`m dead, yeah complete realism, just like getting smashed with a riot shield, and that kills me. only thing that that would do to me in real life, is piss me off, and make me rip the shield out of his hands, and kick the living daylight out of him (like we do once a month with the MP`s for training Cheesy:D:D)

Operation flashpoint and ARMA do a very good job at making a REALISTIC military game. If you want something fast paced and fun to play then go COD of MOH, but if you want a "true to life" military sim then i would go flashpoint and ARMA

Of the games ive played, i would say America's Army is the most realistic.  Ive heard ARMA is pretty good at realism too though. What do you guys think about Bad Company 2?
Ill agree with roontjuh about COD, its definitely NOT realistic.  Shooting a guy running towards you a couple times, only to have him lunge at you and kill you with a knife? ya ok..... and dont get me started on martydom or last stand >.<  but thats mostly just MW2, World at War on hardcore would be closer to realism probably

if any of you have actually had some combat training, you would know nothing comes close to actual combat, the only game that comes close in terms of tactics and stuff like that is AA, i`ve tried BC2 its nice, has some good things and some bad things, but AA is the best when it comes to these things

Roon I would tone down the attitude a bit, it's starting to get borderline yelling about people without combat experience. On this site are retired and active duty military, some in special operations. Nothing can compare to real combat you can only simulate it on a screen and that's what's benign asked what comes closest to simulating it.

Just so it is known I removed roontjuh666 last comment due to anti American sentiment. He will be banned as soon as I remember how to do that or can contact another to due so. I was going to say something Monday night about him giving me a bad feeling but kept it to myself. Always trust your gut!

It's old but I think the most realistic game I've played was Red Orchestra.

I really liked the first 2 Call Of Duty games. I like history and they gave you an interesting look into battles that really happened. Part of one of them made me think of the movie Enemy At The Gates. WARNING the first video reenacts some bloody moments.

Most realistic "military" game I have played, was only semi military. Swat3, I loved it, you got shot 2 times tops, you dropped, shoot your target in the leg, they fall and drop their gun. Use tactical equipment (flashbang, breach charge...) and rl tactics to achieve objectives (rescue hostage, kill terrorist...) with your squad (5 man squad, up to 2 squads per round). Now Swat4 is out, I haven't played it yet, and Swat3 has nearly died since the release of 4. But in terms of tactics and realism, that game beats anything else i have ever played.

Totally forgot about the SWAT games!  i played through swat 4, and it was a very original and unique game.  When your given orders to not kill the suspects, you have to use different methods like tazers or pepper paintballs.  On the lethal missions they give you options of bullets to use ( fmj vs hollow point) depending on whether you want stopping power, in and out prevention, or armor peircing.  Good game indeed!

I forgot about swat as well. 4 is awsome to bad I can't find my CD key. I do love the idea of having a shoot no-shoot situation and a split second to decide about it. Man now I really want to search for a CD key for it and play again.
