I posted this as a reply in a forum at callofduty.com.  Now you get to read it, if you want.

Noob camper: One who sits in one hidden spot and picks off the enemy ONLY when they can see them. They don't bother looking around or provide covering fire. Sit, point, fire.
    Advantage: Spawn point
    Disadvantage: Poor offensive help
    How to kill: Martydom, dogs

Defender: A camper who stays in a general area to defend that part of the map and to provide a tactical spawn point. This camper looks around and helps offensively within his/her boundaries.
Advantage: The better the defender, the better chance of holding that position
Disadvantage: Becomes useless when the enemy is not near by.
    How to kill: Rush them

Snipers: The hidden ghosts of the field. These guys are usually on a far side of the map with a large score of view. They should track other snipers and pick them off. More skilled snipers can also track the enemy while running and still get the kill.
Advantage: Prevents enemy snipers and noob campers
Disadvantage: No other use but to snipe. More skilled snipers really won't have a disadvantage.
How to kill: Enemy sniper or sneak up on them

Dogs are a good way to kill enemy snipers too...since they don't have an automatic weapon it makes the dogs chances of a kill much more likely...especially if the dogs come in packs.

I think it's a disadvantage of the "noob" camper to provide a static spawn point.  It is usually the reason one team gets massacred on the server.

I agree, but there's really no way to resolve it is there?

From a programmatic view point I think averaging the location of the other team's players and picking the furthest point on map rather than the furthest player would be best - or just make the radius of the spawn around the player much smaller than it is.

So what happens when their are players for each team spread throughout the entire map...which typically happens when there are 30+ players on the map?

Usually those players are concentrated somewhere, it just spawns away from there.  My only problem is the camping like in [whatever map has the burning aircraft and the cliff] is that there is a straight shot from one end of the map to the other so you end up spawn dying 30 times trying to escape the spawn.  Maybe the solution is map design.

That could be true, the map you are speaking of is Cliffside.  I hardly ever get spawn killed on ANY maps, but I begin running as soon as a spawn everytime.  Run first look second.

It's rare that I sit in any area, I always run in a circle around every map - usually the opposite of whatever way most of my team is going.

Yeah, I'm pretty well the same way unless I am playing a zone defense.

My main tactic is to runaround and shoot stuff... and die a lot.  Embarrassed

That would be an example of a non-camper gameplay type.  Good for you Katarn, reject those campers and move around!
