Could be. Try uninstalling the drivers of your current graphics card, and if possible install an old graphics card. If you don't have an old graphics card, uninstall your drivers for the graphics card and try to reinstall them.

Other things too:
If your system running hot?

Does the PC stay on even with the screen like that?

I thought it might be drivers too, until it did that at boot up. Virus?  Huh? I didn't think a virus affect the PC before windows loads? And I use AVG, a-squared, spybot S&D, and SpywareBlaster.

I suppose it could be heat since I'm in TX.  Undecided The card is a BFG 8800 gtx OC, it came factory overclocked. My case is an Antec P182, which has good airflow, but it is hot it TX.  Sad

If it is the video card I guess I'll have to put off buying a new shotgun.  Sad Cry

If it's a rootkit then it would effect the computer before Windows loads.

Not if you can't see your screen.  I would have run that scan I posted...it might have popped up in there.  At this point I would try a different video card...if it happens again you'll know you are going to have to wipe your HDD.

The card is a BFG GeForce 8800GTX OC2 768MB, I've had it for over a year. I don't remember if I registered it, which probably means I didn't, but I guess I can call BFG and see if they'll do anything.  Undecided


I doubt it's a virus since I avoid the kind of sites that probably have them, and run anti-virus, anti-malware, and anti-spyware at least once a week.

try to take out the video card and plug the monitor cable to the back of the pc where theres a built in VGA port and see if it runs normally. If it does then there is something wrong with the video card, if no then its your computer's CPU thats messed up, or either a loose connection to the video card or maybe the monitor is broken..

Oh yeah, also try a different cable...if you are using DVI then use a VGA cable or vise versa.
