A Day at the Airshow

The weather held up for at least one day. It was not too sunny, but occasionally the sun peeked through the clouds. Labor day weekend finally arrived and the Cleveland airshow was here again. The airshow was always a great event and could be counted on not to be a disappointment.

Fumes of jet fuel and sun screen rushed into the nostrils of all the arriving spectators. Most people had a camera around their neck and wore soft color t-shirts. Some complained about the cost of parking, but others simply enjoyed an event that only came once a year. Entering the attraction, the site of American troops filled the guests eyes. Each Military division displayed some of their most popular tools and vehicles. The Air-force had a dark gray troop transport aircraft. A Humvee, with a Rock-Band modification, was displayed by the Marines. Guests asked the troops questions about the war zone and what it is like to be home. Even though it was their job to fight for freedom, people thanked the troops.

As the sun soared to the center of the light blue sky, the main attractions began to take-off. Bi-plane pilots performed gut wrenching stunts that looked impossible to recover and made everyone shout “Oh!” and “Pull up!”. Even though the Bi-planes had a single engine, they made an incredibly loud noise. One stunt plane even had a performer stand on top of the fuselage with a trail of white smoke chasing behind them. They made 360-degree turns and showed the awesome beauty of airplanes.

“From the left!” the announcer shouted as the United States Thunderbirds flew by with the sun beginning to settle in the western sky. The Thunderbirds were F-16s modified to perform extreme g-forces and precision moves while flying. Six F-16s formed the Thunderbirds, each having a candy red painted nose, pure white fuselage, and a sea blue “thunderbird” on the belly. Four planes flew in a diamond formation while the other two flew solo doing low flybys and the famous belly-to-belly stunt. The sound of a thousand clicks could be heard as spectators tried to capture the stunts with their expensive cameras. The Thunderbirds not only flew for their fans but they flew for the American troops by making a heart from the smoke trails. The last stunt was performed soon after and the roar of the Thunderbirds finally disappeared as they flew to their next destination.

Once again, the airshow was a great event. As fast as the planes flew to the airshow, they soon left. Spectators left the event with smiles on their faces and looked forward to the next airshow.

Good story but it's spelled "peeked".
