I know to set up cross fire the cards have to have the sane chipset like 2 4870s 1GB but do they have to be from the same supplying company, meaning both from powercolor or saphire or the like

Never used Crossfire but speaking of what I have read, yes, not only do they have to be from the same manufacturer, they have to be the same exact model card for it to work properly.  Don't quote me on that though, I am simply going by what others have said in the past.
